Yes, they are decended from Eorl, who led men out of Dale, which is pretty mountainous.
The Rohirrim are less educated, "aristocratic", shall I say 'polished' than the men of Gondor. Yet it seems to me that the Rohirrim are more...human. They seem to have more emotion, more feelings toward fellow creatures.
This may have something to do with the fact that Gondor is so close to Mordor, or that Rohan is horse-country so they naturally have affinity with other beings, I don't know.
They seem hearty and hale, really strong - both inside and out.
And as Queen of Angmar said, they aren't boastful. They won't look down on you because of your decent.
While I'd rather live in the Shire, if I had to live in the "real world" I would love to live in Rohan.

I though this same way too! It seems that the men of Gondor are more learned than the people of Rohan. Or maybe not more learned, but at least more traditional. Maybe less for that matter...
The people of Rohan are more down to earth and aware of there fellow inhabitants on earth. They live more with the wilderness, than the people of Gondor who live, trapped in there seven-tiered city.

do you know why was Edoras in the movie made like a small village?Reading the book I imagined it to be quite more magnificent and royal, but it looks terrible in the movie,in my opinion, so does anyone know-was it really decribed like that or? because I can't remember the exact quote, only how I imagined it;)

That's okay doriath, I'll see if I can answer your question.
Edoras was described in the book as
Quote: Within there rise roofs of houses; and in the midst set upon a green terrace, there stands aloft a great hall of Men.
Of course that isn't the whole description, just the part concerning the houses and hall of Edoras. It seems that it isn't specific on the amount of houses, so I guess it's really up to your imagination.

That is incorrect, actually. For one, they are not all descended from Eorl, only his line is (it's absurd to think all the Rohirrim were from Eorl's seed!). Second, Eorl did not lead the Northmen from Dale. The people of Rhovanion (or, more specifically, those folk who lived to the East of Mirkwood), after a time of plague and invasion, relocated to the Vales of the Anduin. But eventually moved up between the Langwell and Greylin (which is a little wedge between the Misty and Grey mountains). When Gondor was troubled by the Wainriders, again, the Steward of Gondor at the time, Cirion, sent for the Northmen's help. Eorl came down with his people and saved the day. Calenardhon, "Green Province", was given to them by Cirion, and after was renamed Rohan. The only relation these Northmen have with the men of Dale, is that they are indeed related to them, but they are not descendants of them.
Just wanted to clear things up

Having spent a considerable amount of time around Horses, I'd have to go with Rohan. To me Horses are the almost majestic in their look, and can be as different as people in their personalities. I took care of 1 horse for over a year, who's personality was very playful. Mud (the horse, a Standardbred), used to rub his mouth on my chin, because he liked the weekend scruffy beard, and once in a while he'd nip just a little, and you could look in his face and see him kinda snicker. He also liked to pull my hat off, and play with it.
Yup, Rohan, for me!

The rohirric culture is to me an embodiment of Old English culture with the entertainment, method of record keeping, very similar language as well as the general decor in their houses. I also think that they are a nit hunnic esque, learning to ride as soon as they could walk and they take pride in their horses and are proud of their cul;ture. I would like ot live there as it is a very cool lifestyle and also the idea of riding on the plains with the wind in my hair kinda appeals to me too.

I've got to say that's a bit of a hard one... There are so many places in Middle Earth I love. But I think I would do quite well in Rohan, as I love horses, and think that the whole heritage of the Roherrim and stuff is very cool and would sort of 'fit right in' My friends and I say I'm part Roherrim, Part Gondorian, part Hobbit, and Part Elf. (50% Roherrim, 20% Elf, 5% Hobbit, 25% Gondorian)

Yeh, the elven lands and Towns are like, really cool. I love Lothlorien and Rivendell best as they are really nice and they are places you can really live in literal bliss lol.

Erethror wrote: I've said it many times before - the Rohirrim are my favourite culture/peoples in the LotR. It's always been my fantasy, and hopefully dream come true, to live in some open field (with a forest nearby, and a little stream running through). Not ever being really acquainted with horses I can't say that I can relate to that aspect of their culture, but the horses aside (no matter how big a part they contribute to it) I love the Rohirric way of life. I don't know what it is exactly, but watching, reading, or hearing about Anglo-Saxon, Norse and subsequently Rohirric culture stirs something in me. It is difficult to explain, really... They seem to represent a sort of perfect way of life, consisting of a perfect set of morales, to me. Once I shift towards Gondor, or in history Rome, things seems colder to me, as well when time moves forward. But the rustic, earthy, logical Rohirrim/Germanic tribes act as a toasty hearth to me... Yeah...
couldn't have said it better, my friend I absolutely and utterly agree to 100% with everything you said. That's what makes me love the Rohirrim and the Rohan culture so. Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Rohirric culture stirs something in me as well, you can't explain it, the emotions are just too powerful

Hmm...I'm torn between wanting to live in Edoras SO BADLY and living in Minas Tirith and Ithilien SO BADLY.

well i myself would rather live among teh hobbits, lovely, cosy, food- loving, sociable creatures! I love the whole atmosphere going on in the Shire it rules and the scenery is beautful. I like the whole Rohirrim culture with all of the horses and open land but it would feel too advanced for me. I owuld just like to spend time with friends rather than go out and worry about battles and things.
Especially if Elijah Wood were to be the real Frodo mwahaha! [/list]

I'm actually scared of horses--maybe I shouldn't go to Rohan! It's kind of sad. I'd absolutely love to be Rohirric [the architecture!]--but to be afraid of horses!

Another thing i love about Rohan, is the vastness of the landscape, and of course the beautifull horses and culture. I think living among them as a woman would make you stronger in so many ways, having to watch men going to war as a girl, and seeing the effects of ar on people, it would create a feeling of anguish towrad the dark forces and would encourage you to want to fight for patriotic purposes, don't you think?
I would still love to live among hobbits though !
