I've read Anne of Green Gables. I thought it started a wee bit slowly, but overall it's a great book. :-D I've never read the series, just the first book.

It's not exactly a ... trilogy... considering there are eight books... :p

I love them, (though not so much the first one, which I felt had too much about how Marilla viewed the situation, and not enough about Anne.) I especially liked "Rilla of Ingleside". I thought that was really good... and sad. *sobs*

I preferred the Emily books (same author) personally. I found Emily a bit easier to identify with, more so than Anne. Anyone read them?

After "Anne of the Island" there's ...
"Anne of Windy Willows" - mostly letters from Anne to Gilbert, while Anne's a principle at a high school
"Anne's House of her Dreams" - the first two years of Anne's marriage
"Anne of Ingleside" - about Anne, and also about her children
"Rainbow Valley" - about Anne's children, and the local minister's children
"Rilla of Ingleside" - about Rilla, Anne's youngest daughter, duing WWI

Lots like you've got some fun reading ahead of you. :)

I'm not sure if I've read all the books, I've read a bunch, but I really love the series! The movies are wonderful too, and the local children's theatre put on a musical version that was just amazing..

I though Pat of Silver Bush was okay. I must have, because I read the sequel, Mistress Pat. That was alright as well, except that it covered eleven years and was written in the early 1930s. Calculating how old certain characters were during WWI, I realised that the course of the book couldn't have goe like that, because WWII would have interrupted, and instead of the "romantic" side sorting itsself out, the man Pat liked probably would have gone to war instead, and been killed.
Realising that just really spoilt the book for me.

I read the one about Marigold, and the one about Jane. I thought that they were both ... fairly weak. I didn't dislike them, but I should have read them when I was a kid, not a teenager.

However, the L M Montgomery book I really love is "The Blue Castle". I love it - I think when I read it for the first time, I read it three times in a row... but I still think the Emily books are the best. :)

How in M.E. did I not see this thread? I LOVE Anne, she's such a dear, and some of my RL friends say there's a bit of her in me, and a bit of other book characters as well. :P
I own three of the books "Anne of Green Gables" "Anne of Avonlea" "Anee's House of Dreams," my favorite book of all is "Rilla of Ingalside." Of all the characters I meet, though, I think I like Davy the best.

I don't know how many times I've read the books all in all, they're just pure fun, and like LotR, hard to get tired of.

I've read most of Anne books except Anne of Ingleside and Rainbow Valley. Oh and I've read Chronicles of Avenlea too

I liked them all but my favourite were the first 2 and then Rilla of Ingleside. I think that L M Montgomery is better when she writes about children and teenagers.

I've also read the Emily books though the 2 sequels I read a very long time ago and don't really remember. But I liked at least the first one even better than the Anne books.

And I've read Magic for Marigold which I thought was quite good but my favourite bit was the opening chapter when they were all choosing names for her.

I havn't heard of these other books people have mentioned. I'll need to look out for them.

   I CAN'T believe I forgot about "The Blue Castle," it is excellent!!!!!!!!!! It might be my favorite Montgomery book...besides Anne of course. It's unlike all her other books in many ways.
I'm not sure why I disliked the Emily books (I have the first one), but I just couldn't get into the first one enough to read the other two.

I LOVE the Anne books. I really enjoy the Emily series as well. (I sometimes think I like it even better). I got my screen name on here from the Emily books actually.

Another great book by LMM is The Blue Castle. I wish they'd make a movie from that story.

Wow! My fave was Rilla of Ingleside. The rest were good too. I hated Anne's House of Dreams. I also read one of the Chronicles of Avonlea books.
