Knyn shrugged at the vampire's glare, opened his mouth to say something, then thought better of it. He turned back to the vendor and began paying. He then stepped deliberately away from the bread stall. He took a few more steps, beckoning for Raelin to follow. Suddenly he darted behind a thatched dwelling, out of sight of the market square. Flattened against the side of the dwelling, he counted to ten before peering around the corner.

The bread vendor was gone.

"Curse it," Knyn breathed. "Do you see him?"

Raelin relucntantly followed Knyn behind the thatched dwelling.. Raelin grunted as he heard what Knyn said.. then he took a look for himself.. "huh?" he asked

Turwaithiel swung her sword as about 20 black people came in. She glanced at the mage, gripping her sword tight.

Knyn shook his head and darted out from their hiding place. There. He caught the fleeing form of the bread vendor vanish into a side alley. "He's up to something," he told Raelin. He broke into a hindered run through the market square, after their quarry.

The mage used ice to bar the door, trapping some black ones inside, but preventing those outside to get in for the moment. he then turned his attention to the ones inside, streched his hands forth and chanted prakiommen!, and from his hands, a magical flame burst forth, combusting a lot of the shapes. their dying (if they could die, he thought with a smile under his hood) screams could be heard for a league or more.

"Oh, right," he said swiftly catching up to Knyn

By this time, the shapes has smashed most of the Ice down, and most of the shapes indoors were 'dead'.
The Mage looked at the Elf. Stay back!" he warned her. He streched his hands forth once more and a blinding streak of flame blasted from his hands, destroying the Ice, doorway and all of the black Wraiths behind it. And with that, the Mage slumped to the floor, exhausted.

"I get..... carries away in my magic. I apologize." He said, crawling to his feet. "but enough of my weaknesses, we must go now, before more arrive. By now they must have learned of our presence."

They found the bread vendor in the side alley, conferring with a soldier in silver armor. The soldier's breastplate was emblazened with the symbol of the kingdom. Knyn recognized him as the guard captain they'd encountered earlier in the forest.

"You're certain?" the captain demanded.

The bread vendor nodded rigorously. "Swordsman. Dark cloak and a greatsword. And... and a..." He shuddered before continuing, "Something unnatural. Vampire, I reckon. Cross-shaped scar on his cheek."

The captain tossed a bulging sack of coins at the vendor's feet. An entire contingent of twenty men and half a dozen mages suddenly emerged from the back doors of the buildings bordering the alley. "I want them brought before me by nightfall," he ordered.

Knyn ducked once more into the shadows. "We have to find the others."

"What shalt we do, Lady?" the mage asked the elven maiden. "Shall we stay, or go? To stay is to sit here and wait for other wraiths (if any) to come, or to go means possible noticibility and/or more troubles that we could do well to avoid if possible. What will it be?"

Knyn raced back to the market square, with Raelin on his heels. He remembered watching Turwaithiel and the Black Robe disappear that way. He broke into a run for the tavern.

He rose from his seated position. "I am rested. Shall we try and find the others, lady?" he asked.
