Shannon seemed really worried for Mort now. She took a deep breath and watched him closely. "Look... do you want any pain killers or food? I'll get you anything." She looked into his eyes and bit her lip hard.

Shannon instantly snapped her head up to him. She glared at Mort and stood up to him. "A BOOK SIGNING?! Who do you think you are, Mort Rainey?" She yelled angrily.
"I care for you, because you're my friend. And the reason I didn't care before, is because you wouldn't let me!" She screamed and felt tears reach her eyes.

Mort leaned back and held his hands up as if he had nothing to do with Shannon's quick change of emotion.
"Look..." Mort's voice went calm then gradually grew louder as he continued his sentence, "...if you did care, you would've known by now that me and Amy got divorced and that she is dead..D-E-A-D...dead!"
