I know this might just be me, but I though they were over the top. And let's face it guys, ANY fantasy movie from here on in is going to have its similarities to LotR. It's an epic movie. Also, C.S. Lewis was Tolkien's close friend - some similarities inevitably leaked over from Tolkien to Lewis or vice versa, and these were, likewise inevitably, reflected in the movie. I noticed a couple of similarities in The Horse and His Boy that related to LOTR. Bree is a horse from Narnia, while in LOTR, Bree is a town that Frodo and the other travel to, and the in at which they stay is called The Prancing Pony has the image of a horse on it. Anyone else but me notice this? _________________

I never noticed that..anyway i loved Narnia, but not as great as lotr

I really loved the movie. I always hated the BBC. Yes, they were close to the book. But I just couldn't get into it at all because of the costumes, effects, acting, etc.
I agree with Medalwen, over the White Witch's costumes. They were so wierd! I didn't get them at all. And it bugged me that her hair wasn't black. Honestly, how hard would it have been to give her a black wig and a white fur-lined dress?
The acting in it could've been a bit better, but Lucy and Edmund I thought were played wonderfully. As for Susan's indecision-even in the books she's not entirely sure what she's doing.

They also take time to describe food. I almost always get hungry when reading those parts. _________________

lemme think about this...i did not like the Narnia books, they were boring and...just not up to my standards. Too used to Tolkien's writing me thinks.
But the movies were done better, i'm to lazy to read TLTWATW to see if they missed things.
The graphics were 2/5, and how did Edmund and Peter all of a sudden become such great swordsmen? They were in Narnia for like 3 days(at least thats how long it felt) and all of a sudden their expert swordsmen. If they were there long, they needed to show that.
Acting was ok, the creatures were meh, i loved the Grffins tho, Jadis was amazing but over all, Narnia was a 2 1/2 out of 5.
And Lewis' religion showed through more clearly in his writing than Tolkien's did. Lewis has Christmas, clearly showing that he's a Christian. While Tolkien did not show any of his religion in LotR. That was major factor for me for LotR and Narnia books and movies.

That was one thing I didn't get about Narnia...how can they have Christmas? That's something OUR world has, you know? Should they have Aslanmas?
Tolkein complained about that too, I've heard. You can carry over themes and ideas but specific nouns from this world just don't really work in world of fantasy. _________________ <center> all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us

Narnia is such a mishmash of ancient mythologies, pagan folklore and Christian elements on top of it. I think Lewis just wanted to put everything in Narnia that he loved from this world, his childhood and from the stories he loved reading. Which is why you have Christmas and Father Christmas in there alongside fauns, witches, unicorns, phoenixes, dragons and other pre-Christian mythological creatures (as well as Pagan symbolic objects like the rings in Magician's Nephew for instance). But I agree, it's kind of a weird thing to do for a Fantasy book.

it is a smish-smash of a bunch of stuff that never works in anything, except the real world. He tried to make things work together, didnt work. If Tolkien did that he did it more subtly and with flow, so everything seemed like it was actually supposed to be there. Lewis did everything so it stood out like something shiny in trash(just a saying).Sure some things felt right but over all, it was too choppy...

Yeah I kind of agree. In my opinion he put too many things in there, things that shouldn't be together in a story like that. There is no real structure in that sense.

i love narnia! i read the books when i was younger so i couln't wait to see the movie and i thought it was really good.

I really loved the movie the first time I saw it, but after that, I thought it was OK. When I was younger I LOVED the books but now I don't really know since I haven't read them in years I still want to see all the following movies, because I really like the stories. Espeically the Silver Chair _________________

I thought the movie was so so. The book is probly better but I really didn't like the movie. After seeing LOTR Narnia just seemed plain boring and there wasn't any build up to the battle scene...
O well I'm sure the book is good though

lol the battle barely exists in the book.. it's just mentioned briefly, not written out as part of the plot.
