Not offended at all Gwen. And in my opinion yes, boys have the same amount of emotion. At least to start with. Unfortunately lots of us are subjected to the 'big boys don't cry' type thing when we are young. And the whole idea that boys shouldn't be seen to be affected by things sort of squashes the emotion out of some people.

Personally I feel I have just as much emotion as anyone, I just don't show it. Most of the time outwardly I'm the same calm, serene person, who rarely shows extremes of emotion. Inside is and entirely different story.

I don't feel that I need to hide it to be 'tough' or 'cool', it is just part of me I like to keep to my self, at least until I chose to show that I feel a certain way. One reason is if someone is aggravating me I don't like to show them they've got me riled. It doesn't help my case at all if someone knows what they are doing to annoy me is working. People who know me well (like my parents) can often tell how I am feeling anyway, because there are certain things I do that show a certain emotion in a small way.
I know, for example, that when I get really angry and am in no situation to let it loose, I jut out my bottom jaw slightly and clench the muscles around that area of my face. [adn steam starts rising out of my ears ]

So in answer to your question, yes we have the same amount of emotion as girls, but some of us don't show it, or have been 'taught' to 'ignore' certain emotions. It's just the way things are.

Another question for the gentlemen- I've heard that guys tend to bottle up their emotions, because [again] they want to "keep their image", and then they let it out all at once. In my personal experience I've never really noticed, or been in that situation, but I was wondering if any of you guys could bring that to light a bit more.

Well, answering 2 questions at once I can show you in a way that is true. I, myself, have emotions; stronger than most. Yet as a guy, there is a time and a place for emotions. I believe that school isnt a place to get 'emotional' but yet I can be emotional. If that answers your question. It is just that we tend to let out those emotions when no one is around, or by the people we can trust to see us cry. My best friend at school did some bad things and cried as I conforted him! Sure, I have never seen it happen, but Guys usually dont want to cry in front of the ladies....since we constantly need to be on our toes for you ladies.

And I mean, I'm not insisting that guys be all gushy like girls. Guys were wired in a completely different way than girls. But I don't know, I guess I'm just trying to say that not every girl in the world wants a guy who's tuff all the time.

*agrees* I guess you could say I like more sensitive guys who are willing to share their feelings instead of bottling them up inside. He doesn't have to come cry on my shoulder or whatever [I'll do that instead], but I'd like to know how he's feeling every once in a while.

I guess it's probably a difficult thing for guys to do, sharing their emotions. There's always that image to keep up...

I more than understand where you girls are coming from, but there is a lot of pressure on guys when it comes to that sort of thing. It seems to me that girls want guys to be more sensitive, but other guys kinda expect you not to show that kinda thing. I know that if I was seen crying by my peers at school I'd never be able to live it down.

And Telpeath made several good points. I feel there is a time an place for emotion. And school is not it. I tend to vent my emotions, whatever they are, when I am on my own. I often discuss things with my self. Makes me feel better

He also said that 'guys usually don't want to cry in front of the ladies'. Which is, unfortunately true. Most of us would rather die than have that happen, especially if 'the ladies' happened to include our crush.

It is a shame, but that is how it is...

I do not want guys that are sensitive...they drive me crazy if they cry all the time....Stick some guts into it mate

Definitely. I so get that. Idealy, school really isn't the place to share feelings and emotions. I mean, come on. School is a place to learn, do you think people will care unless they're your friends? But we girls just...
I don't know, we're just weird.
But I understand what you mean about other guys expecting things from you. Most of it is just how guys are [like venting emotion by themselves], but other times, as I gather, it's just what's expected from you. And though that's not exactly right, it's the darn truth! With both guys and girls! It really stinks!

Darrell I do the same thing, vent. I might just get away or play basketball, although I've broken my finger twice in that sport. I also, although somewhat weirdly, talk to myself...sort things out. It is a way of me to vent my frustraton!

Really, guys just dont want their emotions to come between them and their 'crushes'. We have to keep up our reputation...which is hard to build and really easy to loose. I dont know! I think that you ladies can cry (get emotional) in public...no offence...because that is how you are made *still no offence*. We guys, in society, have to be strong, tough, able to seem that nothing makes us upset.

However, if you really want to see a guy cry, kill one of his loved ones. I think that is the only time you really will see them express emotion! But if not, just dont expect guys to show off their emotions, which society forces them to oppress.
