I'll prompt. I don't know how good it will be though.

Write a blurb/story/poem/novel/whatever that involves toilet paper, a broken swing, and the phrase "you can't do this to me!"

for a more serious one.
Write something about a forest at night. Include the sence of taste at least once. Include a wrong turn (from driving, walking, riding, ect)

I don't know how good those are. If they don't spark creativity, just tell me.

Those prompts sound good, Nauriel! I'll start on one or both of them!

What makes a good writer? I think practice, mostly. Unique ideas and characters are also needed for a good story, or at least ideas told in a unique way. The writing style is also important.

well, it's been some time since i posted here. i just thought i would say i'll be posting up a story later today.

I agree with you on that. I think it also depends on how dedicated you are. It does take practice and skill to become good, but you'll never get there with out passion. Passion is huge in my book.

That's true too, I didn't think of that when I posted. You do have to be dedicated, persistant, and passionate. Quite often I've started a story, but after awhile I've lost interest and gone on to another idea. lol I only get a story finished if I'm persistant.

You have to be having fun too, I think that that's a big part of it. If you don't enjoy it, it probably won't be as good.

I don't think it's practice. I've known countless friends who start on a dozen different stories, never finish any of them, and end up convincing themselves that they can't write. I think the most deciding factors are passion and talent. Passion'll keep you working on the story, and talent'll keep you high in self esteem about the story. Dedication and commitment help too. In my experience, to write and finish a story, you have to be absolutely obsessed with it. You have to be able to rant on about it for hours until someone tells you to shut up. It should keep you up at night, debating plots in your head. You should have moments where you think you'd give anything just to meet one of your characters. For me, I think of my characters as my most familiar companions. I befriend them, fall in love with them, grieve when I kill them off....

I read in a book once that "Nobody is an aspiring writer. You're either a writer, or you're not."

I've been on a writing rampage as well^. I just started 5 stories today! I'm not so sure about most of them, but one I think has some promise. We'll see.

the most I've ever written at one time is 2 stories. usually I like to write one story and stick with it.
