Shannon nodded and slowly stood up. She walked into the kitchen, got him two pills and a glass of water. She walked back to Mort, sat down on the couch and then handed him the three items. "Here you are..."

When Shannon came back, Mort had stood up.
He glanced at her, but it seemed his eyes were back to normal now, well, back to normal for him at least.
"Hey, uh, thanks?" he grabbed the pills and the glass water in a voilent jerk of his body he swallowed them down.

Shannon looked up to Mort and slowly stood up beside him. She looked into his eyes and bit her lip. "Mort... I'm trying my hardest to help you. Promise me you won't push me away." She said softly and took his hand in her own. She squeezed it tightly.

Mort cleared his throat from the water and placed the glass on the table that looked strangely re-painted.
"Did you ever read my story?..." his eyes left contact with Shannon and they stared towards the mirror that hanged over the fireplace.

Shannon ran her fingers through her hair and nodded. "Yes, I have..." She sighed and then folded her arms again. She had no idea why Mort was suddenly asking her about this.

Coming from the porch was the sound of Mr. Shooter's boots. Apparently he was now back from the woods, where he retreated for a while.

Mort's eyes dashed to the porch. He let out a terrified moan. He flew out an arm to Shannon snatching her, not meaning to hurt her, of course not..he only grabbed her by the arm to place both themselves behind the couch, in hiding.
"Shooter, his name is Shooter!" Mort started to ramble out in a pace even faster for himself to understand what he was trying to say, "He's my enemy! He's going to kill me!"

Mort could feel the back of his neck perspire. His heart quickened and he felt the painful throbbing pulse of blood shoot through his body.
His dry throat swallowed and he slowly lifted his head over the couch. "There...h-he's th-there.." A shakened finger pointed to the porch.

By this time, the boots had stopped moving and a figure of a head with a wide brimmed hat was standing in the frame of the front door's window with the lacy curtain hanging in front of it.
