Heartland is a horse farm nestled in the hills of Virginia, but it's much more than that. Heartland is like no other place - it's a place where the scars of the past can be healed, a place where frightened and abused horses learn to trust again. Amy Fleming tries to save Heartland after Marion Fleming, Amy's mom, dies in a tragic accident rescuing a horse from neglect in a large storm. Financial issues occur and Heartland might have to be closed. Amy balances school and saving horses to keep Heartland going.

Now, she moved to Heartland to figure out all of the business stuff. She has some very good ideas, and makes some mistakes, but some of her ideas saved Heartland from closing down. And she has a special liking for Scott Trewin, the vet.

Amy woke up and looked at her alarm clock. The neon letters flashed 6:15am. She got up and pulled out old jeans and a tshirt from her dresser. Her hair was tangled, but she didn't care. She needed to go work the horses.
It was a cool Saturday morning. Ben and Ty wouldn't come for atleast another hour. She kept the peace to herself.
The horses eagerly knocked their stall doors, waiting to be fed.
"Okay, okay, I'm going!" Amy said grinning and shaking her head. It was the same routine every morning, but it never got old. She finished dumping the buckets into the horses' feeds and waited for them to finish. She made a mental note. She had to work Moochie, Jasmine, and Dancer before it was too late. She thought about the new horse that had come in a week ago. Her name was Angel, and she came to Heartland from fear of cars. Amy knew she had to gain the black mare's trust before she could cure the fear. She went back inside to answer the phone.
She came back out to see Ben pull up in his pickup.
