Anyone ever watched a two-part tv series about him? I couldn`t help laughing at a scene as I had just watched LOTR the same day, in both movies Sean Bean`s character is outnumbered and he gets shot with arrows, he fights on for a while before falls :D Quite a coincidence....

I've never seen it before either. It must be interesting to break for lunch with a bunch of arrows sticking out of you.

Argh!

Eh wanderng darkness, that avatar of yours is really disturbing. I hate the bloody flash colours

Anyway keeping on england shall we? Just to think of it, how many times has england been invaded or that there were plans to?

Napoleon was going to attempt it had his fleet not lost in Battle of Trafalgar, Operation sea lion was drawn up by hitler and could have commenced had Luftwaffe won the battle of britain and decimated the RAF.

Sweyn I of Denmark actually was the king of norway, denmark & england once. Saxons came to england, funny enough that historians argue wether some of these moves were peaceful or not. Then finally Norman conquest of england, of course the vikings did raid england and had some colonies here and there if my memory serves me correctly..

It is interesting how many people have invaded England successfully or attempted to invade and failed. Of course we can't forget the Anglos who I guess united with the Saxons to become Anglo-Saxons.

Indeed

By the way just remembered, I made a funny discovery (I don`t know if you have heard of this) that the star of david isn`t actually originally and solely a hebrew symbol. It was also very popular amongs the muslims in the medieval times

this is a Karamanid flag from 1375

Another interesting tidbit. The swastiska, which is almost always associated with the Nazi's, was originially a symbol for peace. Christians put it on the tombs of their loved ones as a way of "ensuring the safety of the soul" on its way to heaven. And supposedly it was used to "symbolize the footsteps of the Buddah" and mark the begining of many buddhist texts. It has also been found on some "ruins of ancient Jewish synagogues".

Oh and if you're wondering about the " " I used it because I took those direct quotes from other sources. I don't want you think I was using them as if I was being sarcastic or something.

Only uneducated fools associate the swastika only with nazi`s, it was also a symbol of good luck as finnish air force had it on the planes.

Well, I dunno if it's actually common knowledge that it has been around for thousands of years. Maybe it is and I'm an idiot but I didn't know until last year when my friend told me.

Or well I should restate my opinion, those who actually dare to say it outloud and shout something like "Nazi!" or something when they would see them symbol. That is foolish... believe me I`ve seen some

As for all the invasions on England, you can't really blame them for invading. England wasn't really what you would call a 'friendly nieghbor.' They kind of just took what they wanted no matter what the cost.

As for the Swashtika, too many people are ignorant fools.

What? England wasn't really bothering anyone when the Germanic tribes came in after Rome left. Or am I mistaken?

And as for Napoleon and Hitler attempting to invade, I think that was more of wanting to get an Empire going than because the English were not friendly.

Well... My ancestors have always fought against the English so... whatever...

WD

PS: I don't not currently have any thoughts against the English aside from (1)they talk funny and (2) their humor is weird. But it's all good. :D

Now I'm kind of curious where are you from? Or at least where are your ancestors from?

Only Hitler & Napoleon really saw england as a threat thus comes the questoin why?

For france, england had always been a competitor until the first world war and it all might seen to get its start from the 100 years war and before that anyway... For Napoleon england was the obvious competitor and what a great feat it would have been to conquer england!

what comes to Hitler, was it not obvious? The english empire opposed an obvious threat to nazi germany as it had taken france, besides it was the next obvious target as they were already in war and england was really the only true opposition in europe. After that the rest of europe would have not presented a threat and russia could be next faced...

Both tried and failed, then attacked russia and almost succeeded then failed :D ironical that they both made the same mistakes
