Bev laughed, but was silenced by the distant sound of machine gun fire. Instantly serious, she turned to Paul and said, "We need to hurry before your comrades are found."

"What? No! Come now, hurry! I'm afraid that the little burst of gunfire was the death of about 30 American soldiers."

*I quickly follow you* "Ok, well the point is how do you know its 30 American soldiers being shot? I dont mean to say this but it is one heck of a time to exagerate. Plus, what can the two of us do at all?"

I Pause for a second. I grab your arm, stopping you. "Listen, I am a soldier, I was trained to fight, but also to keep alive, to think, and to strategize. Where are you even taking me?"

Bev shook her arm free, her outrage making her 5'2" stature seem gigantic. "I am trained as a journalist, and I have learned to survive dangerous situations, from the bombings in London, to the occupation of Paris. This is a picnic compared to much of that. As to the soldiers, I hid them in the cellar of the house I was staying in. Any noise, and the Nazis could have thrown a gas cylindar, or a grenade, or shot every one of them. If we're not too late, or I am wrong (which I hope I am), then we may be able to get some of them out, if not all." She continued walking, then turned back once more, "Do not condisend to me. I am sick to death of soldiers acting like I'm an idiot." Cooling down a bit, she continued, "I went to Cambridge for God's sake." She shook her head. Few people realized that her defense mechanism was rage, to hide her low confidence. They continued towards the village.

*I sling my rifle behind my back* Walking along with you "Where is this cellar of yours? And how many German's are there?" *I lift my helmet a little back, exposing my face.*

"It's coming up. I'm not sure how far I walked, but I'm sure we're getting close. Hopefully there are no Germans there. They already completely burned the houses and checked them for survivors, but they may come back. Ah," they came to the thinning of the trees at the edge of the forest. "Just down the hill, first house on the left. We should take the back trail." They wound around and came in through the back door. (You choose what happens.)

*I open the door and enter. * "They have been here, judging from the mess of things." *I step inside studying the room "What was here?" *I point to a folder*

"Nothing that I knew of. I was staying with a French woman. I'm not even sure she can read. Maybe it was one of mine..." Bev walked over and picked it up. "It doesn't look familiar." She handed it to Paul. "And the mess is on account of the copious amount of whiskey Madame kept down here."
