i think that is very wonderful of you guys! i also absolutly LOOOVE it when guys are gentlemen, there are only two guys i know who do that...my brother and my cousin....i guess family is always most corteous to one, but still....why cant miami guys be nice? (miami guys are dogs....pardon the term....but they are, they are very self-centered and try acting like they have absolute no respect for the oposite sex....GROWL)

^Yeah, another big word is respect. I find it very, very irritating being poked in the back by a pencil every 10 minutes in Spanish class by guys asking me for gum, or what we're supposed to do. I mean, maybe they are just clueless on what to do, but I have this very fishy feeling...
It's gross, too, since they're all like Juniors, and I'm a Freshman. I don't even want to think about that...

I know what you mean. I hate how women are often treated like paintings than people. [If you understand what I mean by that term]

I agree that it probably depends on your upbringing. Most of the guys at my school were brought up learning to be courteous around the girls, by pulling out their chair, letting them go into a room first, etc. It really annoys me when it seems like the guy doesn't even care about those kinds of things.

^That's cool. Nobody at my school would dream of doing that. Most of my male classmates are jerks...or just really...weird.

I know exactly what you mean! Women are not something you oggle at, and obsess over. We're human beings too, and we have feelings.

same for me at my school.
I agree with you guys about the thing about women not being treated like paintings, women not being oggled over, etc. Call me crazy, but I usually get annoyed when guys start being all... gentlemen. Especially when someone says "she's a lady. you should treat her blehblehbleh." I don't like being regarded as weak or demanding courtesy just because I'm female. I certainly hate guys who are jerks/macho/disrespectful, but I don't like having certain priveleges/being treated differently just because I'm female.
What I mean is... guys should treat us just like they treat other guys.

^^ I know what you mean LDM, I like some of the gentleman stuff, like letting you go first, and opening doors. But some of, it ...UGH go away! lol. Guys don't have to be Gentlemen for them to be nice. They can be the most amazing person ever, without being a Gentleman...No offense to any of you, it's just my opinion

I don't know... I guess it depends on who you are. Personally, I like different treatment from guys sometimes, as long as it's nice and courteous. It makes you feel kind of special, ya know? I just feel like it's a common courtesy that should be continued.

Careful of what you wish for. Treating you like "one of the guys" may prove to be the worse decision of your life.

-nods- Being treated as one of the guys is not what I would want. Ya'll are so violent...I wouldn't be able to deal with that. I love guys because they're amazing but being one of them is not something I'd want

wow.
Great conversation.
I'm not a femeinist, but I hate it when women are regarded as weak. But I do (or rather, would, as it doesnt happen much...at all) like the whole, opening doors thing, etc. It's nice and cute, but, that's just a hwole different era, and time.
It's lovely to have heard someone say that the gents in her area were brought up that way, but it unfortunately doesn't seem to happen too often.
Like Mornie said, Miami guys are wrecks and "chongos" in thier own ways.
*sigh*
I think that's why it's so hard for me to actually choose a guy that I would consider boyfriend material, most are just jerks!

yeah! most are chongos!!!
*for any who do not know what chongo means, well its hard to explain, but just imagine a guy, with his pants so low that his boxers are showing(if you pull the shirt up, because they're shirts are down to their knees) i am NOT exaggerating, i see guys like this everyday, not a joke, serious....its horrible. apart from the attire, they take the word "slang" into a whole 'nother dimention, they turn it into "inchomprehensible" and they have no respect whatsoever for anyone, but themselves....they also act as if they didnt care that their life was headed downhill*
...yeah, thats what chongo means.....as oposed to chongas, but i think you should look that one up by yourself, its probly in google

This is a difficult one.
I would probably be pleased if a guy held the door for me or did something similar. But then if he got all smarmy and fake, then I'd be annoyed. And I think I'm too much of a perfectionist to have a boyfriend, I'd probably nag so much he'd walk out!

I had a boyfriend once who opened the door for me everywhere we went. If I tried to open the door for myself he would stand outside the door and make me come back out so he could hold the door open for me. It used to annoy the heck out of me.
All I want from a guy is respect, which means no cheating and no trying to pressure me into doing things I don't want to do. I don't need you to open the door for me all the time or buy me things, just respect me.
