I agree with you guys.A guy just needs to respect me and I'm good. I'm currently single though. I like it that way though... Less pressure and stuff.

Amen to that! I'm not asking for every single guy I meet to hold doors open for me and treat me like royalty, but I do appreciate the occassional nod, ya know? And I definitely don't want to be involved with a guy whose cheating on me or trying to pressure me into doing things that could harm me or others!

Wooo! :teehee:

How come it's so hard to find a guy who will hold the door open for a girl anymore?

Sometimes playing gentleman instead of tough guy can catch a girl's attention more. That's definitely the case for me. If he holds the door open on my way in to school, I'll be thinking about him all day.

I know you peeps have done this topic to death, but I feel I need to stick my twopenneth in (please excuse the weird english phrase)

I personally hold the door open.It is just being courteous. I hold the door for everyone. Normally I will make a concious effort to make sure no-one wants to use the door. I'll look forward, and back where I have come from to see whether anyone else is going to the use it. Even if they are still 10 or 15 seconds from reaching the door (when I put it like that it doesn't sound that long, but in relative terms it is.)

I don't treat girls differently for the most part, though some of those old values I adhere to. 'Ladies first' is one I often use (though not verbally), it is just good manners. The thing that really gets me is when you hold a door open, and five or six people walk through and no-one says thank you. That drives me mad. After that happens I wish I had slammed the door shut in their faces :disgust: but the opposite is when you offer to hold a door open for someone, and they insist on holding it for you. that always make smile.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings... I did have a good question for you ladies, but I have forgotten it. I'll see I if I can remember what it was...

*Jumps in*

Mind if I join?

I try to do that. If I notice someone coming (guy or girl) I hold the door. Or if I'm walking with someone I'll open the door for them.
It annoys Arwen :-P

Also just saying "you too" to store clerks when they say "have a nice day". Noone ever does that...poor store clerks.

I don't have any questions at the moment...actually...I've never understood high heels. :-P Girls wear them to dances and then afterwards their feet hurt so badly they can barely walk. Why do you do that to yourselves?

That is a very good question.

^^ Now on the topic of opening doors, I personally think it is courtious and kind to open the door for someone, of both genders. It is a sign of respect if you wait an extra 10 seconds holding the door for lets say an elderly person. I remember when going though my studies, we came across a story of this man that dropped his books. Out of no where this other kid came and helped pick them up, and invited him to his house to play video games. Well, comes to show, the kid that dropped his books was going home to commit suiside. And by this other persons kindness, he didnt kill himself.

It is a very sad story, but it teaches us that even the smallest of kindness can be an impact to a persons day. It might change the way they see life.

I know this is far from the subject of Door opening, but the message basically is Opening a door is kind, respectful, and just plain cool!

I'm quite lazy, Opening doors seems pointless an d hardly very curtious at all, I got stuff to do! But yeah, I do do it!

High heels...hmm...
Good question.

I think they're very elegant looking [some at least, not the REALLY high ones], but gosh darnit, they can really hurt! Especially since I have a really high arch, and wide feet. I wear them sometimes [like at weddings] because they look classy, but they do hurt. I guess it's just what we girls are willing to go through to look pretty. :P That sounds so dry, but it's the truth. I'd rather have aching feet and look nice, than comfy feet and look like a geek.

Girls, please add on and let me know if you can relate!

Oh dear, I haven't been here for quite a while, but it seems you all are having marvelous conversations!

I completely agree with you Gwen! It's all about how you look, or feel you look. When a girl thinks she looks good, she'll walk a little taller, feel more confidant. So it doesn't matter to most of us that they hurt, as long as we look pretty. Seems kinda shallow huh? :)

On the topic of opening doors, I am quite the old-fashioned romantic. I expect that if I am with a guy, he should at least make an effort to open the door for me. I love guys who are curteous and treat girls/women with respect. There are too few out there who do, so I feel lucky to know a couple.

Welcome back, Luthien! :)

Yeah, exactly! If we feel pretty, we'll act loads more confident. But as soon as I realize I've put on one grey sock and one white, I'll try and act as invisible as I can.

Thankies hun! :D

My brothers bug me about wearing make-up, but it is actually surprising how much better you feel when you spent time on your looks. Even if you spill some ketchup on your jeans, you want to run home and change! It must be a psychological thing...

*lopsided grin* And here I am proud to be a geek... :-P

I suppose that makes sense. We guys wear suits and ties and all that...
But I think shoes seem more like a detail to me, and the amount of discomfort is different.

What I mean is:

If I go to a wedding in a t-shirt and jeans I'll look way out of place, and I'll only be a little bit more comfortable than if I had worn a suit.

But if you go to a wedding and don't wear high heels, none of the guys are even going to notice, and you won't have to limp to your car at the end.

I suppose it's just a different ordering of priorities, but it always makes me feel sorry for girlkind... :-P

^Haha, well, you see, you tell us guys don't notice, but there's nothing any amount of guys could say that would make us feel better about showing up in less-popular looking shoes. :P And even if we were by some miracle convinced that the guys wouldn't notice, there's always fellow girls. They notice everything. And even worse, they go and tell their friend.

Yeah, I know what you mean, Luth! People are always like, you don't need makeup to look pretty, don't hide behind a mask! I'm sorry, but putting on makeup really does boost my self-esteem.

[And Grey Pilgrim, I sincerely apologize. I didn't mean any offense against you]

I don't wear high heels unless it's necissary, I usually wear flip-flops  I hate high heels, they're too painful...

Honestly, if you think about it, most girls wear clothes to impress other girls. When you walk into school and your friends love your outfit or the "cool" or "trendy" girls compliment your hair/shoes/etc, that makes it all worth while! People think girls dress up just to impress boys, but what they really want is their friends to be impressed! Am I right, girls?
