What you have to understand is that the Chronicles of Narnia are childrens books. I know I've said this a hundred times, but it's true! Of course they seem choppy compared to LotR, they're written on a children's level, and children don't really care. Lewis wrote about Christmas because it's something children can relate to!
Put it this way: Tell a kid that it's been winter for a hundred years and they'll think, "well why's that so bad?", as we see in Lucy's reaction. But put in something that kids can relate to, like Christmas, and they get it! Christmas is a child's favorite day of the whole year! Tell them that there have been no presents for a hundred years...now they understand why it's so bad.

I love that about these books. When I read the Chronicles of Narnia, I feel like an innocent child again. And yet, there are deep morals and symbols put in there that I can learn from them, too.

I like some of the characters, but the new movie is just too modern for me. The four kids that play the Pevensies just don't fit their roles in my opinion. I like the old BBC movies better. But hey, that's just me.

but not all children celebrate x.mas, so Narnia doesent really work in modern times. Maybe in England, 60 years ago it did, now it doesent. LotR works fine in any day or age because it doesen't carry any of these Christian qualities. Narnia is too old for these times...it is old and can't change...

Owh I have yet to see Narnia... it's on my computer, but I forgot about it... thanks for reminding me... err... and please carry on!

It's not too old. Lots of kids didn't celebrate Christmas when Lewis wrote it. Anyone could understand what happens in Narnia just as well- maybe more easily- than LotR. It's not too modern- it is old, not too old, mind, and it's how it is; do you see people critizing Anne of Green Gables because the girls always wore dresses in that time period, unlike today, so therefore it doesn't 'work'. LotR doesn't 'work' because people don't smoke pipeweed like hobbits. Nothing has to be the same as what happens now in order for it to be a good story.
Gwenneth: I totally agree. It's a children's book/movie, yes, but so is the Hobbit, and who on this forum doesn't love the Hobbit? It's a classic- it can be loved by all ages.

I loved the new Narnia movie. It's true that they added a few things that weren't in the book, but they didn't leave anything out (correct me if I'm wrong). Adding things to the story in a book adaption can be dangerous, but I think that in this case, it works. The things they added make sense. Take the bombing and the train journey, for example. It is mentioned in the beginning of the book that the children were sent away from London because of the air-raids. Actually showing an air-raid gives the story a little more continuity than just plunging in with them already in the Professor's house. It's sort of the movie equivalent of that little introductory paragraph that tells you what happened before the story started.
I have to say, I think the BBC versions were pathetic. I watched them on Halloween with two friends as comic relief after a horror movie. And I don't think they were intended to be funny. I mean seriously, there's a beautiful nature scene and then in walks this animated unicorn. Sorry if I've offended fans, but my honest opinion is that they are laughably bad.
Back to the modern version:
I don't agree that the actors playing the Pevensies didn't fit their roles. I think they were great. I was a little surprised by how young Lucy was, but I think that's because I was about her age when I first read the books, and of course I didn't feel that little then. I think she should be that young.
Also, I loved the soundtrack.
Basically, I have nothing bad to say about this movie, and apparently feel a slightly neurotic need to defend it.

Well, they left a couple things out, such as the talk with the Beavers in their dam should've been longer, and the geography was a bit messed up (THERE IS NO FROZEN RIVER!), but yes, otherwise it's really true. I still don't like how they did the White Witch in either movie, but oh well, there's always something a little bit wrong and I'm not going to critisise it, it's done.

It was good, but not great. Aslan and the beavers looked very fake, and some of the lines they put in seemed kind of dumb. The books are way better.

I liked them but only saw a tiny bit of the christian theme only a tiny bit also I need soem pics of william moseley

Narnia was never written as a Christian story. It was written as a Fantasy story inspired by lots of ancient Mythologies and folklore. The Christian interpretation comes from fans, not from Lewis.
