Jack crept through the hallway, trying to find a place to hide. He settled for the little nook beneath the stationary first flight of stairs. He listened intently for approaching footsteps, so he would be ready should any appear.
"Boo!" Mrytle screamed. Jack jumped about five feet into the air. "Myrtle! What was that for?! You scared me half to !"
