Hannah and Hailey chatted on the trail as their horses stood side by side. They were coming up to the field and Hannah asked Hailey if she wanted to race to the fallen down log over yonder. Hannah knew Hailey was probably going to win as her horse was a little bit more of racing material but she just wanted to do it for fun.

Hailey shook her head, "I love a good race."
Right at the end of the clearing, Hailey stopped Dragon, and expected for Hannah to stop her horse right beside her.
When that was done Hailey said, "ready, set, go," and started off in an extended canter...

Hannah and Monty started out in a strong canter and about the middle of the field Hannah asked for a full gallop. The two sped across the field and ere head until Hailey asked Dragon for a gallop and the two were neck and neck.

At a gallop with Dragon, Hailey felt like she was flying. Hailey felt free, then they were across the clearing in a tie. Were Hailey was, she had to jump Dragon because there was a fallen log...

Monty stopped just short of the log and Hannah felt so free. Monty was a smooth as anything in a gallop and canter. It felt like you were floating on air. Hannah loved that feeling. She said " good race" to Hailey and the two laughed. They walked side by side back to the stables

Hannah walked Monty back to his stall. She had to go out to a farm and pick up a horse who needed to be trained. He was a particularly stubborn horse and wouldnt do anything that was asked of him. Hannah knew that feeling because Shadow was like that.

She accepted the challenge of training this thoroughbred stallion. She took her trialer and went over to the place.

Elly led Starlight out of her stall. Starlight had been neglected, and Elly decided to buy her since Dancer was gone. Today she would try her over some crosspoles and small verticals. She tacked her up and led her out into the jumping arena. The jumps were set very low. Perfect, Elly thought and started to warm the bay mare up.
Starlights mane blew up as she picked up a canter. Elly sat deep in the saddle and moved with her. Her gait was smooth, her pace even and collected. Elly slowed to a trot and headed towards a small crosspole. Starlight scaled the jump and trotted towards the middle. She jumped it perfectly, tucking her knees and lowering her nose. Elly patted her and circled back to take it again. Starlight broke into a slow, flowing canter and took it again. Elly knew she had probably jumped before, but not in a long time. She cantered over a one foot vertical and over some other jumps in the arena. Starlight had broken into a heavy sweat. Elly decided to hose her off and put her away.

Hailey cleaned her horse's tack. She had exercized her only two horses, and took care of them. She had nothing to do, and didn't want to go home. Hailey finnished cleaning the tack, then walked to the part of the stable were the horses there were for sale. Hailey looked at each one, feeling their legs, checking their teeth, and giving them treats. None appealed to her. The next stall, was a dapple gray stallion.
When she was in the stall next to his, she heard him kicking the walls, and he neighed real loud. Courius, Hailey decided to investigate. As soon as she saw the horse, she fell in love with it. Though he was scared, and the whites of his eyes showed. Hailey entered the stall, and blew in his nose so he could get her sent. She checked his grey legs, and they were in good condition.

Hailey felt like she had to take him out for a ride. So she put a bridle on him, and led him to the mounting block were she rode bareback...

Hannah was at the stables where the stallion was kept. His owner walked up to her and led her to the stallion. He was a gorgeous mahogany bay thoroughbred and Hannah went into his stall and stroked his neck. The next thing she knew he bit her. She punched him in the neck and stared in his eyes so hard he nback away the whites of his eyes showing. He was scared now.

After wrestlinhg with the stallion Hannah finally got a bridle one him and led him to the trailer.
He resisted t first but Hannah didn't give up. He was a powerful horse and did not want to go anywhere.

The owner gve Hannah words of encouragement and payed her for the first week of training.

She took him back to the stables and put him in his stall.

Hailey didn't want to get off of the dapple gray stallion, but she did, and led him back to his stall. Somehow she got to talking to him. She talked to him about Star and Dragon, and school that was coming soon, and a few other things when someone behind her cleared their throught.

Hailey jumped and turned around to see who it was. It was a boy, maybe a year older than Hailey, with shaggy brown hair, and deep blue eyes.
"are you this ones owner?" Hailey asked, and he nodded. He was smiling!
"the way you talked to him, it was like you owned him!" the boy said.
Hailey blushed, not knowing what to say.
"Thinking to buy him? His name's Universe, but I sometimes call him Uni..." he blushed at that, "He rides like a dream."
"I know"
The boy looked at her than back to the horse,
"I can't keep her because I don't have the money. The names Mark by the way." Mark held out a hand, and Hailey shook it.
"Hailey. How much for him?"
He shrugged, "never thought of that... maybe $1000. I got him for $800. I never could ride him for long before he'd throw me off." he blushed again...

Elly let the hose water run down Starlight's back. She brought it down and let it run all over her legs and chest to cool her down. The mare turned around and watched her new owner at work. Elly smiled and continued to hose Starlight off until her whole body was damp and clean.

Hailey bit her lip. "um... can I try riding him?"
Mark shrugged, "okay. I'll get the tack, you can bring him to the field!"

When Hailey brought Universe to the field, Mark was already there with a beautiful set of tack. It was all black, with silver stars flying across the saddle and briddle and reins. They tacked Universe up, and Hailey mounted him. She trotted in circles with him, then cantered. She jumped him over a few jumps that were in there.
"He rides like a dream!" she said, then she noticed Mark was wide eyed and his jaw open.
"What?"
"I've never seen him be so good for a rider before!"
"I'll give yeah $2,000 for him, thats plus the tack!"

Hannah led the stallion to a stall and gave him a groom and some food and water. The owner wanted Hannah to train him to be a jumper. The next day they would start training. Hannah was tough and didn't take stuff from horses.

She then walked over to Shadow and groomed him and took him out and rode him bareback she enjoyed bareback riding but not on him he was boney and not balanced ont he flat.

She put him into a canter and jumped him bareback a couple of times he was a dream jumping.

Hailey dismounted, and called her dad. He said he'd come right over to pay for the horse and said she didn't need another horse. Hailey felt there was something about this horse that was conected to her, and she needed to buy him. When that was done, Hailey untacked Universe, and rode him bareback in the field for awhile...
