No actually then Ra's and Magneto would be considered as antagonists, not villians. Villians have an evil nature and disposition. Antagonists just oppose the protagonists.

Does nature counts an antagonist? Just wondering since they are countless disaster movies.

Well I don't really count the Phantom as a villain but he is a bit of a one. So I think we can call Magneto a villain but in a very broad sense. He's still one of my heroes. ;)

potr does have a point there. Jack is equally ruthless and egocentric as Barbossa, but do we classify him as a villian?

If you want to, I think you could. At this point, after what happened in DMC I would call him a villain of sorts.

*gasp* I really don't think I could ever classify Jack as a villain. If we were going to say Jack (which I don't think we are :sly:) we would also have to include Norrington and that ain't happening either. ;)

*double gasp*

What happened to your Snapalicious banner Larael!!

Oh dear, that is true. I guess it just depends upon how you look at the situation. Ah well, I loveses Jack and Norry all the same!! :P

Hmm... I knew you'd say something about my Snapalicious banner. He went on holiday [in my closet] for now. I decided it was time for a Frodalicious banner now. ;)

Villians can classified as followed (well at least those that we are all familar with)

The Mastermind - (Sauron, Lex Luthor, Emperor Palpatine, Voldemort, Doctor Doom) Power-hungry and outright evil
The Fallen - (Darth Vader, Murtagh (maybe?)) Fell into a corrupting influence
The Noble - (Magneto, Ra's al Ghul) Have noble goals but pursue them in extreme ways

Poor Snape. The poor duck needs a break. I also forgot to add Commodus to my list. Anyone Joaquin Phoenix plays can't be all that bad. ;)

I too agree with that. Yes, I think the Phantomj is noble. He's not plain evil...he just goes about things the wrong way.

There the thing with some characters that they are so hard to categorize in to groups, btw speaking of sparrow LDM I would count him as an Anti-hero because he is still a hero, but he uses some ways that are not acceptable and so on....

btw how can people really categorize murderer villains in thrillers/horror films? Just pondering, are they just mindless slashers or is there a reason really? and are they justified to commit those murders?
