Anyone heard of National Novel Writing Month? I just found out about it. Participants have one month-November-to write a novel. It sounds like fun, but I don't think I'll participate since I'm working pretty steadily on a different novel, and I don't want to get distracted from it.
Here's the website for NaNoWriMo, as it's called.

I've never head of that Elenya, sounds cool though.

I've recently started writing another new book and I wondered if anyone would be interested in reading the prologue? It'd be great to get some feedback. :)

I'd love to read it. And I'm good at giving feedback, I think. Well, that's what my friend's tell me. But I'd like to read it.

I have heard about National Writing Month, but not the novel-writing part. I don't have time to write one anyway. AP classes get are higher on my to-do list. lol.

My Saviour
Jesus is coming so all should rejoice
Even the dark will pass away
Soon we'll all dwell in the house of the Lord
Untill then just believe, 'cos you'll get your reward
Soon he'll save us from a fate worse than death, for he is the savior of all men

Can't worry for tomorrow
He's gonna take us all home
Ready yourself for a plunge into unknown
I'll wait and I'll pray and my
Savior will come. He died for you and me and us
Trust, and your sins will be forgiven

One and Only

You are the one
The one I adore
For without you
I'd just fall to the floor
You are the one
The one and the only
Without you
I don't know what I'd do
I was headed for darkness
But you came by
I stuck out my thumb
An act of blind faith
Of one who had none
You said hop on
I've got room to spare
I got a one way ticket
To the House of my Lord
So I feel alright
'Cause you'll keep us all safe
And the darkness of this world we call Earth
Seems a little bit lighter
You showed me the way
I'll follow you there
I took your hand
A hand offered with love
I took it so I wouldn't fall down
And I know that you won't let me stumble
You are the one
The one and the only
You are the one
The one I adore

The House

In my youth, there was a house
Nestled in the waving grass
So tall I could hardly see around me
The stone walls now crumbles
And the thatched roof long fallen in
The house has lost the glory held still in my heart
That same grass overpowers the cobblestone path
But my eyes are unobstructed
I climbed that oak tree as a girl
My name carved in a childish hand
Remains still on the mighty trunk
And the magice remains
Ivy and wild flowers
Bobbing in the breeze
Greet me as I return
To the house of my youth

Soon You'll See
Clasp hands in prayer
Raise your head up to the sky
Open your mouth and let
A song of praise to Heaven fly
Come out of the dark
There's no need to hide
Let Jesus be your guide
He loves you
And I love you too
And we all await with open arms
The day you stop hiding
Break free and rejoice
Our saviour will come
Doubt not in heart or thought or word
Soon you'll see
And you and me
Will clasp hands and sing
And laugh and cry and love
For Jesus is all we need
Soon you'll see
Soon you'll see

:) Ok, here goes. The prologue of Breaking Free.

------

Prologue

I stood on the top of the cliff, a foot or so away from the edge. The wind howled in my ears and the rain pounded on my bare arms, plastering my hair to my head. The sun was almost gone, the faint glow only just visible on the horizon, casting its final rays on to the stormy water. It was a bitter cold November evening; the blood that was rushing through my ears was nearly as loud as the freezing rain and whipping wind around me. I held the automatic gun in my left hand, my index finger clasped around the trigger, waiting for my call. The harsh metal was cold and smooth; it fit my mood completely.

As the last glimmer of the sun dropped down, the fiery globe vanishing before me, I raised the gun to my temple. At once the rush of blood in my ears faded, the sound of the wind and rain around me stopped, all I could hear was the steady beating of my heart.

I looked out around me, not once moving my head but my eyes darted from point to point, taking in my final surroundings, before I plunged in to the eternal darkness, ending my internal suffering.

But to understand why I was stood on the fine line between life and death, heaven and hell, you’d have to go back to when I was 21. To the November of 2002…

------
Ok, so what do you think? How could it be improved?

Welcome Fencing Maiden!

Estë, it was really good. It made me want to read more right away. The only thing I would say would be to try and set the mood a little bit deeper. Trust me, it's not bad, but maybe develop the outside surroundings a little more. You have such a dark event beginning the story, it would only enhance the beginning if you wrote a little more about what's happening outside your character's head to set the mood. It's really fantastic!

Here is a free-verse I wrote back in April...

Where I'm From

I am from cherished toys,
from old stuffed animals that won't hold any more loving,
and a dolls house with amazing stories,
and a bicycle that thinks it can fly.

I am from The Pine Curtain,
and sleepy little towns,
from the Great state of Texas,
and the small county of Newton
from the rebuilt King Solomon's Hanging Garden,
from the never-ending ant hills,
from a garden with 12 -foot corn stalks.

I am from the wildflowers, the sunflowers, the nightflowers,
from the pansies, and magnolia's, and the amazing nutgrass,
I am from the enchanting scent of Pines,
from the little house on the hill.

I am from Jewish Festivals and candle lighting,
from nieces and nephews, all still Clarks,
from late-night movies.
(Lord of the Rings, Hidalgo, and Les Miserables)
From sisters with families of their own.

I am from thinking and studying,
from loving unconditionally,
and holding their hand,
and from a room with stars for nightlights.

I am from saying grace before meals,
from praying with friends,
sometimes crying, sometimes thanking,
from asking Daddy questions,
and asking Mama's advice,
from leaning on prayer.

I am from a Cherokee heritage,
a grandfather I never knew,
but still adored.
I am from the times I asked where my red hair came from,
and they told me God created it.
I am from the day the forest was a-fire, from teasing cousins,
and from a turtle who really could climb a tree,
from the hurricane that blew with force,
ruining homes, devestating lives, thwarting dreams,
but didn't phase us.

I am from sawdust and hammers,
from little bits of wood, and bent nails,
from arrowheads and Indian pottery,
and from the time my sister was stuck in quick sand, and laughing about it.

I am from delicious aroma of chili, spring cleaning, and Southern hospitality.
I am from walks in the woods, playing in the rain, watching the sunset.
From the amazing collection of Goliath Beetles,
from trips to the library, and the best teacher in the world.
From playing Noahs ark in Mississippi,
from inventing marvelous things,
and still believing she would have been invisible had something not gone wrong.

I am from sleeping outside without a tent, or inside with a tent,
and sneaking back into the house to get food.
And from my little sister creating excuses for me.

I am from a world of dreams, birthed in books or stories,
from H. G. Wells,
from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,
from William Sydney Porter
from Roald Dahl
and folklore.

I am from scrapes, bruises, scars, and bumps,
from the time we crashed the new red wagon,
from being dared to eat locust,
from getting my wind knocked out of me,
from doing high ramps on the bicycle.
And being proud.

I am from parents who care,
from being dusted off and put back on my feet,
from the gentle reminders not to go too far,
and from continually being taught how to use a compass.
From my mothers smile,
and my fathers hug,
from a wonderful home, a marvelous family, and a beautiful life.
