Which reminds me...what are we going to do about multiple nominations or awards per person, and winning the same award twice in a row? There was quite a discussion about that after the last member awards.

I was about to bring that up RA. We discussed it at the end of the last member awards but I can't quite remember if we came to some kind of conclusion.

Yes, here is the old thread: http://www.arwen-undomiel.com/forum/vie ... php?t=8539

Was a conclusion ever reached? If not, I'd like to briefly look over it before we officially start up the next round...

Yes, I have been wondering about this as well...and no, I don't think anything was really decided..but here is my two cents worth..

I personally don't have a problem with a person either being nominated for an award and then being nominated for the same next time round. The keyword is "a" award.

However, I believe that if somone is nominated for say three awards and happens to win all three, the next time the nominations come in and they are again nominated for the same three, the member in question should be given a choice of which award (or perhaps 2) they would like to be nominated for. This to me seems fair, as they have had a shot at winning three, and now it is someone else's turn. :-)

Hmmm... we ran into a problem last round when people who had one awards before were winning them over and over in the same category. I didn't think this gave anyone a fair chance of winning, and suggested that people be allowed a certain number of times to be nominated for an award.

However, I see that that could cause problems and I'm willling to work something else out.

Yes, that's true. I think there are going to be various aspects to this, and it is certainly a problem as the whole point of member awards is not just for one member but for all. ;) But I am sure it will be resolved. :-)

Well, my 2 cents is that:

-A member can be nominated for as many awards as they like and put on all the polls, if the case arises. However, if they win more than one award, the member should be given the choice of which award they would prefer. The other award they won would then pass down to the second place winner. Yes, I know there might be one person who is the most Welcoming and the 'Best Oldie'. But there are other members who may be just as welcoming. This way, more members are honored in the member awards than if a couple people won 3 awards each.
-A member should not be able to win the same award two sessions in a row. However, they can win it as many times as possible, as long as it is not back to back. If they have been honored once for being the most friendly, we get the point. There are other friendly members too be honored.

That said, I'm not going to die or anything if it doesn't turn out like that. :P I just want to make sure a variety of members are honored with awards, and not just a choice few. After all, most of us are friendly and welcoming, there is a handful of people good at graphics, and plenty of us have other obsessions besides LotR. Instead of one popular person taking sweepstakes and winning them all, dividing them up gives more people the chance to be recognized. After all, I don't want member awards to turn into a popularity contest. :confused2:

But...I think I'm repeating myself. So I'll leave it there. :)

We'd considered having them choose which award they'd prefer after winning multiple, but decided it would be much more fair to have them choose this way:
Nominations will be accepted through this Sat. At that time, any people who've won multiple awards in the past and are nominated for the same awards (multiple) will be contacted and asked to choose which award they wish to run for. Then polls will be posted and voting will begin.
