Well, I'm pretty sure Alans would be a misnomer, as the Alans were destroyed by Gothic-Roman Feodorati when the west was collapsing along with several other large nations.

i think it was basically a takeover by all the tribes near the empire... they mostly adopted much of the roman culture (language...architecture...etc) they called it the dark ages...it wasnt anything bad really, everyone thinks some barabarians took over western rome and were there bein barbaric untill BOOM enlightenment.....

No, they didn't adopt THAT many Roman things, the main thing was just fuedalism, and that wasn't a very positive one.

Yes, but the barbarian temperament in itself basically meant that save for select few cities outside Italy, most of the less monumental Roman architecture fell into disrepair. Influence only started to be extremely important in the Renaissance.

Yet, speaking of roman architecture have you know the thing about filling the coloseum in rome with water don`t ya?(for gladiator sea battles) In the summer when there was a free watch on many channels, discovery(my favourite channels or at least history) etc. There was a document how the coloseum was actually filled with water in one night thanks to the aquaducts and the system(sp?), then it could be drained.
The only drawback was that the building itseld didn`t like this very much and was damaged by the use, thus it was replaced by the coloseum we know today or the bottom floor I mean. With all the animal pits etc

Well, it was probably entertaining, I've read of mock naval battles in the Colosseum many times already. The preferred seemed to be Rome vs. Carthage mockups.

True that they were, funny how all the victorious civilizations see their foes as barbaric for example the greeks thought that of persians, but it was actually the greeks that were more brutish than the persians truly.
