I'm pretty certain that he sailed away to Valinor with Bilbo, but I might be wrong too I guess.

As for if her ever mentioned the Ring, in the books, I don't think he did, or if he did, we don't hear about it.

Nope, Frodo most definitely went to Valinor. If you read the book again, you'll see there's no room for argument.

Yes, the War of the Ring, being the entire plot of the LotR trilogy. Sorry, for not being a little more specific. In fact Tolkien considered calling his work for The War of The Ring, but changed it to The Lord of the Rings.

Thanks for explaining T.T. And also it's true. I do remember that Frodo sail to the Undying Lands with Bilbo, but I don't remember if they talk about the Ring after the quest ends....

A question: Was Bilbo there when Frodo woke up, after the mission was over? I know that he wasn't in the movies, but I can't remember if he was in the books or not. The last time I read them was at the beginning of this year, so it's getting a little fuzzy in some places. Anyone know?

So you're reading ROTK now? Good for you! I'm glad you're reading the books. I know what you mean about not being able to put it down. LOTR is very addicting. Once you've had a little taste, you're an addict for life.

I know yeah...I always thought that part of the movie was a little bit silly. I believe though that it was for the reason that everyone knows...time shortage.

I believe that PJ hoped to add in a small bit of humour. I mean it is quite funny how he went through all of that and just came out and said 'I lost it' If you see what I mean?

I don't think it was meant to be funny. I think it was meant to be ironic, which it was, very. It fairly drips with irony. All that he went through and he just "lost it." It also gives us the stark contrast between the Frodo we knew before the quest and after the quest. It was a really nice scene I think, even if it wasn't in the books.

Well, whatever way you look at it...

Humourous in a way but sad in another way.

When you think about how much it scared Frodo [especially when he says 'There are some hurts that go too deep'] and all he felt he could reply to his uncle Bilbo was 'I lost it' it gives us an insight into the fact that he's bottled up his emotions and in that sense it's very sad.

He went through all of that hardship and struggles...he lost himself completley through corruption. He did not want praise, he did not want attention. He felt that overall, he had no need to talk about it ever again...and so he didn't.

There is definitely a sad tone to the scene. Think about what they're doing. They're forever leaving Middle-earth and all of the things and people they love there. Frodo has just gone through unimaginable torment, all to save a world he now had to leave. There is definitely sorrow and bitterness there. But I think Frodo's saying that he's putting it all behind him. He's going forward to a new life that will take away all of his pain.

The sheer fact that he refuses to go back over all of the torment and tragedy through re-kindling those memories of which he hopes to lose, demonstrates to us exactly how much it had gotten to him.

There was never any doubt of how much it had gotten to him. You take one look at the Frodo we knew before the quest, and the Frodo we know afterwards, and it's amazing how different they are, almost like two separate people. And, of course he didn't want to relive all the pain. Would any of us evcen be brave enough or strong enough to face that kind of pain? I think not. And nobody would want to relive it again afterwards. They'd want to do what Frodo did. Sail away to where they could forget all the pain they felt. So, yes, i agree with your post.
