Well, I suppose it kind of depends on the kind of rap for me. Mostly I don't listen to rap because so much of it is TRASH, (bad language, words that you cannot understand, bad talk, pointless tunes, so forth) but there are a few songs out there that I actually like. I like the Will Smith MIB song at least! :)

I'm not really a rap fan either. I want music where I can actually understand the bloody lyrics! When people at my school start talking about Usher (YUCK!) I'm completly out of the conversation. :disgust:

*cringe* I can't STAND Usher! :disgust: I couldn't believe it when my best friend said she liked Usher. ugh. I was surprised cause she's what you would call "punk" so I don't get it but w/e I guess...

I don't like rap much either, although a lot of people look at me oddly because I don't know a lot of the big names of these singers of "todays" music. But I don't care, sometimes it's nice to be an individual. I prefer listening to movie soundtracks over and over, or Disney songs, jazz, classical, and this awesome band called FLogging Molly. Rap is just annoying, and half the time you can't understand what they're saying! And they alos force it upon us by rolling down there car windows and blasting it so loud everyone within 2 miles gets to hear there wonderful music*sarcasum*. :explode: :explode: :annoyed2: :disgust:

I use to listen to rap music but after a while I started getting realy sick of hearing all of the cussing and bad grammer! such as (yo whats up,up in da club) :confuzzled: these new rappers are so diffrent and they talk about the same things over and over again. so if I listen to rap it will be by the old school artist. :-D

^ I totally agree with what most of you are saying. The closest I come to listening to rap is the rap-ish bridge in Bring Me to Life (Evanescence). But for the most part, I don't consider rap really...music. Music has a melody; rap is just words strung together in a rhythm. I don't like hip-hop either, but it IS a different genre.

As to R&B, it's really annoying to me how the term has become corrupted. I mean, when I was growing up (lol...I'm not that old...I just grew up listening to old music) R&B was used to describe stuff that was kind of similar to old Motown. Now it's just basically another term for hip-hop stuff.

Rap? Oh dear...if my uncle ever heard you criticizing rap, you'd all be hanging from the gallows tomorrow. :confused2: I personally don't like it that much, and I totally agree with what our lovely webmistress was saying, that I never really have considered rap as "music" per-say...and though some beats can definately be catchy...well, I just don't listen to it.

I like Rap, Hiphop and R&B ... I hate it when people criticise it it like that... no respect for other peoples' preferences at all ... I like all kinds of music and those three as well so it kinda annoys me when people say they hate it... why is a thread with outright bashing allowed here anyway? it clearly insults Rap... "who here doesn't like rap...?" okay well can you be any less specific? good lord, people these days ... how would any of you take it if i started a thread "who here doesnt like rock...?"

In general, I don't like rap or hip-hop, but I don't really care if other people like it. I don't like it when people bash my music, so I'm not going to bash theirs. There are a few rap/hiphop/however you want to classify them groups/singers that I like, such as Matisyahu, Grits, Gnarls Barkley.

since someone is *finally* asking my opinion on rap.... I hate it. First of all, I think that it's not even music. It's words with a beat. I can do that. It's not artistry. Same with screamo, and screamo is also bad for one's voice. But staying on topic... My dance teacher brought it to my knowledge that rap people are able to write poetry. She's a linguist, and she's read some of it. Just my views on Rap.
