Chanel draped herself over an armchair in the Gryffindor common-room and yawned widely, rubbing her eyes and resignedly fishing a crumpled, Butterbeer-stained essay out of her bag. She measured it hopefully and groaned to herself, muttering "Six inches short!"

Early that morning, Gwen could've been seen trudging down to the pitch. Her Firebolt 3 was casually slung over her shoulder and she was bundled up in a long dark green coat and scarf. She had stayed up late the night before but she was still unable to sleep. She mounted her broom and slowly rose off the ground. Then she jetted off, heading the same direction as the snowflakes. She had enjoyed the sensation of flying for an hour. She'd stop controlling the broom every so often and just let herself fall but managed to regain control before hitting into the snow covering the field below. It was odd in her family. Neither of her parents were particularily fond of flying. In fact, her father practically hated it. But to their daughter, nothing was better then soaring.

Finally, she became aware of the time and, resentfully, she landed. She stored her broom in her locker in the changing room. She'd probably have practice or something today. Gwen trudged up the hill. Her hair was an unusual color. It was a nice dirty blonde tone, slightly crimped and wavy. She hadn't bother metamorphing today. Snowflakes coated her hair and clothing. She began to brush them off as she trudged up the hill, back to the school for breakfest.
