So far, you two have a lot more luck than I do. I have at least three special talents, aside from being intelligence (But I think I'm falling apart!!!) and my artistic talents. I can lie fairly well, find loopholes in everything, and can get people to hate him within two weeks. I guess it's something that I have or don't have that stops it but still....one more way I am like Howard Roark.

I have a question for the guys on here: I am currently writing a story with a female lead. This character is the daughter of royalty, headstrong, arrogant, determined, and a brilliant swordswoman.
Would guys be interested in reading this? Do you regularly read books with female main characters, or are most of them male characters? Please be blunt... I'd appreciate more a straightforward answer than something just meant to spare my feelings _________________

Good question LDM! We did a study on this at school when we were studying social sciences. I'd love to see what the guys have to say about this. Do you read more stories where a male is the protagonist, or female? Do you even care?
From a girls point of view, I'll say I read both. I do prefer a female's point of view over a male's because I think I understand it easier, but I won't be picky. As long as I'm enjoying the story.

This is what I've noticed in popular books: Guys and Girls will both read a story where the main protagonist is a guy, which why books like HP and Eragon are so successful. However, usually only girls will read a story with a female protagonist. This is only the rule for fantasy - in realistic fiction, each gender generally tends to read only about their gender.

I never even realised that RA. I always forget that Eragon and HP have male protagonist because of some of the other main female characters. Hmm...

I've noticed as well... that females and males both read about male protagonists but I don't see many males reading about females, which gets me worried

the story itself? I'm rewriting the beginning so it's not typed up yet but I'll show you one of my teaser/summary things.

To me it doesn't matter which gender the protagonist is, as long as the story is gripping. I tend not to read mordern set books, as I get enough modern stuff in my life, so really the books I read are fantasy. I've read several great stories where the main protagonist is female, a fine example being His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman, or The Wind On Fire trilogy by William Nicholson. So I don't think than the gender of the main character is important, it just seems that more fantasy stories are written with a male protagonist.

That's another interesting point RA. Ya know, I've been thinking about this lately; we live in such a sexist world. I mean, who says girls can't play the same sports guys to just as well, if not better? Or who says guys can't take ballet? I just don't understand it. *shakes head*
