Arwen all the way! We needed some girl power in that film!

Glorfindel! He's way cooler than Arwen, and probably the most powerful elf in Middle Earth except for Galadriel, and then maybe she's more powerful than him, but just maybe.

I would agree with those who have said that Arwen is the best choice. As others have mentioned, there really needed to be a way to introduce Arwen as Aragorn's love. This prepares the way for the meeting with Eowyn and her disappointment in falling for Aragorn who is already inlove with someone else. Also it helps to broaden Aragorn's character, show another side to him. He was more than just a hero; he was a hero trying to win the right to marry the woman he loved. He needed to earn his place as king in order to take Arwen as his bride If she had just remained a sort of reference in various comments until the coronation scene their relationship would not have meant so much to those who had not read the books.
Also to introduce such an important character as Glorfindel and then just let him go would not have worked so well. If he was to be in the films they would have needed to develope his character and there would not have been time to do this. (If only they would piece together some movies on the Silmariion!)
I do not think Glorfindel would look that much like Legolas. He would have been blonde it is true but he was a much older elf he had crossed the ice with the elves who first came to ME. He would have been more like Galadriel somehow seeming older and more noble and powerful than Legolas.

They definitely should have went for Glorfindel. Arwen could easily have been introduced in Rivendell without a problem!

I would say that....
a. They should have kept Glorfindel in the movie and have him save Frodo.
b. But what other way would they have introduced Arwen?
So most of it I would say was sort of done to make the movie a tad shorter, but it drew PJ away from the book.

I really would have liked to have seen Glorfindel in the movie, but then again I'm kinda glad it was Arwen. Being a bit of a feminist I like it when the girls have impressive roles. And also if Arwen hadn't stolen Glorfindel's role all she would have done was be mopy dying and all the time.

Poor Glorfindel though, in the cartoon version Legolas stole his part.

Definitely Arwen. I think she did a really great job in that part and when should her love relationship to Aragorn have been introduced otherwise? If Glorfindel had done that scene, the Evenstar scene in Rivendell for instance would have made no sense for all people who don't know the books and the fact that Arwen and Aragorn are in love.
Besides, what should PJ have done with Glorfindel in the rest of FOTR or in the following movies. In my opinion it's not that much use to introduce a character for just one scene and then drop him. That might have caused too much confusion...

Yeah I agree it would have just been weird. Though sometimes I wish they had left Glorfindel in.

But I don't care about having people confused!! I just want Glorfindel back!! Waaah. Yeah Arwen was cool in that part, but Glorfindel would have been a little more impressive when it came to crossing paths with Ringwraiths.

Arwen had to be introduced anyway.
So I guess Arwen was the best choice for the movie.
I like Glorfindel in the book, but it would have damaged the rythm of the movie if Aragorn had met Arwen for the first time in Rivendell.
Too much actions at the same time ... Frodo wakes up, meets Bilbo, goes to the council, Gandalf talks with Elrond, Aragorn and Arwen say sweet words to each other. That's enough.
If we had to introduce Arwen, who she is, and all, it would have been too much.
If she comes to help Aragorn, that already means something special, and helps the public to understand who she is in a few minutes.

I would love to see Glorfindel butthere would not have been enough time to really introduce him properly. He appears only briefly even in the book and to really find out more about him you need to read the Silmarilian or Unfinished tales, so to have him in the film would have been too much of a diversion, I think. But I would love to see a film about the First Age or the the wakening of the Elves, the making of the Silmarils, etc and the crossing the Helcaraxe etc. Dont suppose that will happen though. At least they are making the Hobbit at last.

In the cartoon version of LotR it's even more strange... there they have Legolas come and rescue Frodo
