I really do not like rap, or any other types of music that sound remotely like it. It's not music, as many have said. And the lyrics are horrible. It gives me a headache. I prefer Rock, or especially soundtracks, Enya, etc. I do get that other people like rap, and I'm fine with it- this is just my opinion.

YES! They are so full of cussing that it's almost unintelligent. You'd think those were the only words in their vocabulary.
I don't care much for rap.

I don't care much for rap. "Their"? By saying "their" are you speaking for rappers in general? Because that is completely bull. Look up the meaning of "rap" and tell me what you get. Does it mention anything about "cussing" and "lyrics"? No. It mentions how it derived from African American people and it is a good form of music. It was only recently abused by some of the modern-day rappers but you can't say that it's unintelligent because it is NOT.
Quote: rap4 (rp) Pronunciation Key Audio pronunciation of "Rap" [P] n.
1. Slang. A talk, conversation, or discussion. 2. 1. A form of popular music developed especially in African-American urban communities and characterized by spoken or chanted rhyming lyrics with a syncopated, repetitive rhythmic accompaniment. 2. A composition or performance of such music.
intr.v. rapped, rap·ping, raps
1. Slang. To discuss freely and at length. 2. To perform rap music.

They do swear a lot. Doesn't disturb me, though.
I don't like it... 75% of songs are about sex and drinking, you rarely get anything else.. I respect Eminem (though I don't like him anymore) cause of his lyrics and stuff.

HoL, if the dictionary said that rap is "a good form of music", I don't think it was being entirely objective...
I'm not a big fan of rap, for many of the reasons other people have listed. I have respect for the foundations of the genre, as it used to be a cultural thing and the people who did it were rhythmically talented...but that was before every other word was swearing and sex talk. I don't have respect for rap as it is now.

Rap and hip-hop used to be good (in my humble opinion), before it became a trend. I was a big fan of the old school rap and hip-hop music throughout the whole '90s. I still like Eminem. Nowadays it's a completely different story. Instead of actually making quality music, people are only incorporating rap or hip-hop sounds into their music because it sells, thus only making music for recordsales and top Billboard charts, thus only caring about the quantity of the music. But of course, this is only my wee humble opinion.
It's not the cussing that bothers me, it's the lack of quality in today's music.

I can't stand any rap except for Weird Al. I love flowing, beautiful music - not an endless repetition of trashy drums and unintelligible lyrics.
I'm very sorry if I'm being to in-your-face... but I tend to get pretty opinionated about rap. If other people like it, I will let them listen to it for me.

I definitely agree. I listen mainly to Celtic, Irish, and Classical music.

I want to start of first by saying this might surprise a lot of people (maybe not lol) but I do like the odd rap/hip-hop. By that I mean old school stuff like Public Enemy, NWA, Run DMC, Cypress Hill, Onyx, Ice-T just to name a few.
However..reading through this thread I see a lot of people have some very strong views and opinions about it. I like it, I don't listen to it a whole lot. But I do take the occasional notion to listen to some.
Am I offended or hurt by anything anyone has said against rap? No
It's there opinion and they have the right to say it and express it anyway they see fit (obviously within the confines of the rules on AU).
I'm sure there are plenty of bands I like that a whole lot of people not only on this thread, but the forum as a whole absolutely hates. Does it affect me? Nope, I could care less what other people thought about my musical taste.
I'm sure there are plenty of things other people like that make me curl my lip in disgust. If someone asks for an opinion, I'll give it. I wont put a rose hue over it. I'll tell it like it is.
Should my opinions and thoughts make you change your opinion on the subject?
Absolutely not, and I wouldn't want it to.
Sorry for the long post, but this is something I feel very strongly about.

Thanks Wenchy, I appreciate it.
I just don't understand why people get so upset when someone else says they don't like the same music as them. Music is a personal thing, at least it is for me, nothing anyone says or does will change my opinion on it, or hurt my feelings.
