I really enjoy Eminem's videos. Though obscene most of the time, they're usually humorous and often has a message.
Those rap videos that do feature the half-naked girls also all look the same; the rapper in front of the camera rhyming away with two ladies on either side shaking their bootays like there was no tomorrow.

Have you guys seen Weird Al's "White and Nerdy" "rap" video? It's quite hilarious. It's parody on the song "Ridin' Dirty" by Chamillionaire.

If music vidoes had comply to strict rating standards like movies, it would be so much better.
If the rappers want half naked girls strutting around in their clips so be it, it just means that that certain clip can only be shown in a time slot deemed appropriate for that clissification.
It is inappropriate for certain clips to be shown during peak childrens veiwing times.
The only real censorship I've notably seen of music videos is the bleeping/silencing of swear words.
Everyone claims that eminem was the first real white rapper to make it in the industry, but that is so incorrect. Anyone remember Vanilla ice?
My brother loves Eminem so I've ben painfully subjected to alot of his music. I have to admit there is a song that I actually went out to buy the single if. It was the one where he colaborated with Dido. Can't rightly remember the name of the song, but I liked the message of the song.

Now THAT is good stuff. Besides that, I don't much like rap.
I think it's an easy way out for people. You don't really need any singing talent, and the rhythms aren't complex enough for me to enjoy it. It's my personal opinion of course, since I've played the flute since second grade and prefer interesting rhythms to the same one over and over. It depends on one big thing, I think: If you like music for dancing, you like rap. If you like music for listening and ponering, you don't like rap. I'm the second one

Unfortunately, I do remember Vanilla Ice the hair, the pants... "Ice Ice Baby" was played at every single school disco I went to when that song was new

Ah the memories of Vanilla Ice......
That brings me back. =D
I actually have a difficult time differentiating between hip-hop and rap...
I do like "Doing Too Much" by Paula Deanda (sp?) feat. Baby Bash, I don't know if it's rap though since it doesn't sound to be rap.

I dunno about rap not having complicated rhythms...someone help me out here, it's usually in 4/4 time, right? Basic cut time or 4/4 can lend itself to some interesting rhythms. I might not like the music, but I don't want to say that no one in the industry is talented. I watched some videos on the history of the English language (put on by BBC, fascinating, everyone should watch them) and there was a segment on African Americans and how when slavery was brought to America so was a new aspect of English. It was really, really interesting. But back on topic, they showed a clip of a few guys who did rapping in their neighborhood. They'd put on a beat, and then rap back and forth, taking turns, for as long as they could- making it up as they went along. They could do it for over an hour. Now that, my friends, is talent.

I'm just amazed at the rhyming. I try to rap, and I trip over my own words half of the time. x.X
I'm in complete awe of people who can battle. Being able to think of rhymes ( and usually insulting rhymes) off the top of their head..Wow!
They spit major fire, yo.

Exactly. That's got to take a lot of talent. I can't even come up with poetry when I have a whole day, so I'd never be able to do it on the spot.

I wish I could like Eminem. I think he's had a few good and decent songs, and I think he has a lot of talent, however I can't stand a lot of his music. I'd rather not listen to him talk about how he wants to kill his ex and things like that. But he has had some relatively non-profane, non-sexual, non-violent songs that I've really liked. (such as "Lose Yourself")

I respect the fact that they can make up rymes and all that on the spot, god knows If I ever had to try make up stuff on the spot I'd end up just saying something like 'the fish goes round and round and round' or something insanley stupid like that.
One of my major qualms with rap as whole is the rap songs with profanity, like alot of profanity. But that really goes for any genre of song, if its really profanic then I have little to no respect for it.
But it just seems like there are alot more really popular profanic rap songs getting airplay than profanic music in a diffrent genre.
I remember when Alanis Morrisette's song 'Hand in My Pocket' with the swear word was released alot of people were like *gasp* 'This song is getting played on main-stream radio with a swear word on it' Now certain radio stations are allowed to play a certain amount of swear words an hour...
...And yet they still play the bleeped version of 'Hand in my pocket' o_O

White and Nerdy owns. It's my absolute favorite music video out there right now... and I've already expressed my fandom for WA.

I do hear kids like beating on their desks a lot in school getting a 'beat' and it sounds to be all the same and at times someone would bust out rapping. It's a cool, though repetitive and can be annoying.
