i get waaay too into books and end up feeling really strongly about the characters. i really do love/hate them as if i know them and i have a bad habit of talking about them as though they're real, which freaks people out slightly.
my most loved characters are:
- faramir (most women want their mr darcy, but i want my faramir - totally in love with him)
- eowyn (one of the most well-written women in literature)
- sam gamgee (totally adorable)
- jo from little women (character i identify with most)
- joe in rule brittania (don't ask why, but i fell in love with him too)
my most hated characters are:
- susan in the chronicles of narnia (intensely irritating cuz she thinks she knows everything)
- amy from little women (such a brat)
- houlden caulfield in cather in the rye (it's a fantastic book, but he's the most slapable protagonist ever)
how about you guys? you ever fallen in love with a characer in a book? is there any fictional person you really can't stand? do share.

I have an overly active imagination, so tend to slightly obsess over certain characters...in an ever-so-slightly-fangirlish way I just caught up with human beings in general and finished both Eragon books, and I love Durza's character there. I always fall for the bad guys....Aragorn and Faramir are my favourites in LOTR, Grant in Jurassic Park (the book rocks over the film) and before I got into my Harry Potter hating mindset, Lupin, cos werewolves are just. that. cool.
I hate Harry Potter. With a vengence. In my opinion, he is the most irritating character in the entire history and future of literature. But that's just me
I haven't read many books lately, aside from Eldest...I must read some more...

Why don't you like Perrin, Raven? He rocks! Even if he's not as cool since he met Faile.
Anyways, my favorites are (not in any particular order):
1. Aragorn, Faramir, Frodo, and Sam from The Lord of the Rings
2. Beren, Luthien Tuor, Glorfindel, Ecthelion, Finrod, Fingon, and Mablung from Tolkien's stories about Beleriand (i.e. The Silmarillion, The Unfinished Tales) 3. Rand al'Thor, Mat Cauthon, Egwene al'Vere, and Lan Mandragoran from [i]The Wheel of Time.
4. Jacen Solo from the pre-Dark Nest books; Han, Leia, Jaina, and Anakin Solo; Luke and Mara Jade Skywalker; Wedge Antilles; Obi-wan Kenobi; Darsha Assant; Mitth'raw'nuruodo; and Lorana Jinzler from Star Wars.
5. Taliesin, Arthur, and Merlin/Myrddin from The Pendragon Cycle.
---
My most hated characters:
1. Maeglin and Morgoth, from Tolkien's tales about Beleriand (especially The Fall of Gondolin)
2. Sauron. He destroyed Eregion, and, indirectly, Numenor as well. From The Lord of the Rings(mostly), for those who don't know.
3. The High Lord Weiramon, Elaida, Alviarin, Graendal, and Moridin from The Wheel of Time.

But Harry's just so shallow and predictable and just too, well good to be honest. People need a darker side to be interesting, Harry's our typical, save the world, chosen one orphan.

Most loved:
Numair. (He's mine, ladies!)
Liam Shang Dragon (Also mine)
George. (He's pretty darn cool. Mine)
Valec (who doesn't want a sexy assasin? He too is mine)
Janco and Ari (They go togeather and are in my possesion. Meaning they are mine)
Nawat Crow (Touch him and you die! I'm dead serious. He's all mine!)
Most Hated
I don't really have any most hated. I'll have to think of that.
Sorry if I came on a bit strong about the guys that I liked (Wow, they are all men.) I tend to get a little...possesive of my literature men. "A little possesive" doesn't even begind to cover it.

Whoas! (Yes, that was meant to be plural. It's not a typo.) Smashing idea for a thread!
I tend to get VERY attached to the characters in books. I have an overactive imagination. If I listed all of the characters I love and dislike strongly (:P), we'd be here for eternity, but I can post a few.
[s] Hate[/s] I hate to say hate (lol. Oxymorons are fun.) I think it implies a stronger emotion than most people think. I'll say....... dislike strongly instead.
Dislike Strongly
Beth -Little Women (I'm sorry, but no one is that perfectly good.)
Mr. Collins -Pride and Prejudice (He was hilarious, but he gave me the creeps.)
Mr. Wickham - Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen writes very hateable villains.)
Eragon -Eragon (For some inexplicable reason, he annoyed the heck out of me.)
Love!
Frodo Baggins -The Lord of the Rings
Samwise Gamgee -The Lord of the Rings
Practically every other LOTR character. Even the baddies are fun. And even characters like Gollum and Boromir have their merits. Frodo's my favorite though, always.
Mr. Darcy -Pride and Prejudice
Edward Rochester -Jane Eyre
Jane Eyre -Jane Eyre (:duh:)
Sirius Black -Harry Potter
Remus Lupin -Harry Potter
Mr. Tumnus -The Chronicles of Narnia
Lucy Pevensie -The Chronicles of Narnia
The BFG -The BFG
I know there are more. I'm just too befuddled to think of them all at the moment.
One other thing: What character do you feel you relate to the most from a story? I know everyone's going to say this, but for me, it's Lizzy Bennet from Pride and Prejudice.

^ yeah, i know what you mean about beth - she's just too good and too bleh, by which i mean there's just nothing interesting about her. i fund her mildly irritating, but it's amy i really hate. i mean, when she throws jo's manuscript on the fire...
in answer to your question, the character i identify most with is jo in little women - it's like reading about me, which is a little freaky. i really love the way winona ryder plays her in the more recent film.

Quote: 3. The High Lord Weiramon, Elaida, Alviarin, Graendal, and Moridin from The Wheel of Time
Ugh!! I hate all those High Lords who smile in front and then try to stab you in the back. Evil. I don't like quite a few people in those books. RJ makes wonderful evilishness.
Well, I love waaay too many characters to list them all here. Mainly all characters I love.
Hated:
Gavril - Sword, Ring, and Chalice Trilogy
Mr. Wickham - P&P
Miss Bingley - P&P
Professor Umbridge - HP: I hate her with a passion.
The Twins - Eragon
Denethor
The Sacksville-Bagginses (Well, Lobelia does turn out all right in the end.)3
And I strongly dislike Susan - Narnia
It's the whole "I'm better than you attitude" that makes me hate characters.
