Yeah, Kit, that can be fun. When I do shows at school, the drama group is a tighter community than at other times throughout the year. Often while we're waiting to go on stage, a bunch of the guys and some of the girls will start beat boxing or rapping...us being the music geeks it can get really funny.
I've only heard one rap group live- at a big conference this summer Grits performed. I didn't like the music at all, but had to admire them because they were really good rhythmically.

Have you ever seen the wedding singer? Near the end of the movie theres this old lady singing SugarHill Gangs 'Rappers Delight' It makes me giggle.
If every rap song was sung by a little old lady, I'd be sure to enjoy it more, mostly for the comedic aspect ^_^

I don't mind so much the actual music of rap, compared to the content of the songs. I still don't see how it is necessary to swear and talk about drugs and sex and gangs and such in almost every song! (or at least all the songs they listen to at my school ) And I hate when people just listen to rap because they think it's 'cool' but they don't actually like it! Come on people, it's like BE YOUR OWN PERSON! But I do like two rap songs (even though I wish their lyrics were better ) - Ridin' Dirty and Goldigger
Btw, has anyone heard White and Nerdy (remake of Ridin' Dirty) by Weird Al? It's HALARIOUS!

Whoa, I've just had *fun* reading this thread. I'm half scared to state my opinion. LOL!
I have very little interest in *modern* music but what I have heard of it, in general is not really my cup of tea. But I really dislike rap. It's always seems to sound beat boxy, and be loud with unintelligable words and the singers always dress the same and have weird hand movements. I've never really listened to it enough to figure out the words, but I just know it's not my thing. I like decent music with a good *tune* (as opposed to loud bang bangs) and good listenable (is that a word?) lyrics.

That song is so ingenious!
'Look and me I'm white and nerdy'

Grits is good. Their only cd that I can really get into is The Art of Translation, but they're still good. "My life be like oooh ahhh oo-oooh" very catchy

Hey JF, I entirely respect that as your opinion, and I almost agree. I don't go much for rap, heavy metal, or other big-percussion-crazy genre's.
I think I could really get into rap if I wanted, but I don't want. Like I previously stated, the lyrics are a biggy... and I don't like the way a lot of percussion makes me feel. I always end up feeling emotionally distressed or something...

Thank you. It doesn't me if people like rap, but my own opinions of it is very low. I am more old fashioned in my tastes, as I like Frank Sinatra and Johnny Cash and classical so modern stuff is not "my thing". Yeah, bangy bangy percussion is not good for headaches.

Lala's opinion on rap:
A. Rap is not music. It is words with a beat. Even I can do that.
B. Most of the time the lyrics are inappropriate and their content is about immoral things.
C. Whenever people blare rap, my reply is Beethoven's 9th. Or Bach's Minuet in G. Or some beautiful classical piece.
I don't even care for rock. Barely even light rock. Much prefer contemporary Christian and classical.

I respect and love and appreciate every music style. . .except country. Yes, i like rap. Well, some of the beats and truly amazing, and i like dancing to them. However i think some of the lyrics could be changed; all it is is degrading towards everyone. But, i do like rap beats, i respect them.

the beats are okay. i need something a bit more complex to satisfy me, but i can deal. it's the morals that make it unbearable for me. any of you ever heard a song that does not make dirty references to women? anyone ever seen a video that doesn't have a half in it? they are few and far between. i mean, if you're the kind of person who doesn't listen to lyrics, then its just fine if you like it. i am the kind of person that analyzes lyrics alllllll the time. it's my pastime. and those lyrics just realllly bother me.

I agree
I don't like rap. I used to listen to it for some time, but after a while it doesnt make sence... I descovered rock and metal and... now I'm really happy
