Shannon shook her head and looked up to Mort. "Don't let them do this to you, Mort." She whispered and then slowly stood up, but she instantly fell back down again. She groaned in pain and just laid on the floor.

Eventually Dan's screams stopped and all became silent down the hall.......except for the creacking of a cell's hinges being opened.

Nate's attention was directed toward Mort who was now beginning to lose it. A small smile cracked across his pale face.

Mr. Shooter whispered in Mort's ear,"Do ya want it ta stop? Do ya really want it ta stop, Mr. Rainey?"

Mort's eyes clenched close. They tried to squeeze away reality, and everything that reality held. But that still small thought in the back of his head was telling him none of these voices he was hearing...was reality.
Then, that haunting slang, voice of John Shooter spoke from the back of his mind. He couldn't block it out, it was there, clear as crystal.
"Yes...yes...yes....I, want...it...just to, stop." He whispered back to the voice.

Mr. Shooter leaned in closer, "Then make it stop yourself. Just do it. Like my story remember? 'I know I can do it, Dodd Downey said helpin' himself to another ear of corn from the steaming bowl. I'm sure that in time her death will be a mystery even to me.' Finish the deputy!"

Mort's eyes grew wide behind his glassed frames. "Finish the deputy...got to finish the deputy..." he said in reply to the voice in a smooth whisper.

Shannon slowly opened her eyes and swallowed hard. She looked around the room and then back to Mort. She hadn't heard what he said. She gently pushed herself back up, but with hard work.

Nate's attention was drawn to the door as footsteps drew nearer.

The cell door opened with a loud creak and Dan's limp body was dragged inside by the two officers.
Deputy David had a cheesy smile plastered on his face....as if he enjoyed torturing helpless victims. "All right, Miss Shannon, times up," he said as he looked toward her bruised state.

Mort's eyes darkened, and his head had titled downwards. A sly grin creeped over Rainey's face as the Deputy came into the room.
Stop it, before it's too late. Got to stop it....I know I can do it....it's too late...Todd Downey....shutup....I'm sure that in time....you can't stop it..

Dan's limp form was carelessly tossed onto the cot violently. The two officers stepped away from Dan and back toward the deputy.

David glard at Shannon ignorantly, "Why should I when I have so many helpless victims in here? Right at my fingertips!" He smiled and then walked toward Shannon and kicked her in the face. He then cursed at her.
