Hmm..well, this is a difficult question to answer. I love his willingness to leave his home and fight against the Empire. Even though he knew(partially) the dangers and risks, he didn't hesitate.
That's just one quality I like..I need to think on some others.

Yeah. Like he would really be able to stop the Ra'zac when they want to kill someone.
Stupid Roran. He even encountered the Ra'zac. And he expected Eragon to stop them? Grr.

 I mean, I agree with you, but I feel bad for Roran...I mean, his "wife's" father hates him, his dad is murdered and his cousin has disappeared, while he has to defend his city!
