I agree with just about everything being said here.  And I think that fashioning it after the Yule Ball is a good idea too. Hmm... lots of fireplaces and candles, to give it that warm feeling... and I vote that we should serve lots of tea. It would fit in with the whole picture I think.  And I love the idea of the HUGE tree, of course.

lol! all these ideas are so cool! i can't wait to see how it turns out! the huge christmas tree sounds amazing! and there should be an ice sculpture of a horse! oh and one of legolas! oh oh oh!!! and there should be a big fire in a huge fireplace with stockings on it!!! hehehe. and the gift exchange idea sound great!!

aahaha. lol
back to the ice sculpture idea, i think that there should be a life size minas tirith one!!! oooooooo that would be soooo cool!!!! 8) 
and with lots of music, and all of the actors/characters from lotr shoulde be their (but i'm not to sure about gollum) lol jk.

^Oh a Minas Tirith sculpture would be cool! Mabye not full size though!  And I think alot of the characters/actors are coming as escorts.

I don't think rock music is a good idea - not very Christmassy eh? Or as someone said, if we have to have rock, let's have two seperate rooms, one for classical Christmas and one for rock.
So so far I think we have got:
Large trees (to the ceiling)
Classical music and waltzes
Rock music
Snowflakes falling from the ceiling
Roaring fires
Swags and wreaths
Candles
Bows and garlands twisted round pillars
Minature Minas Tirith ice sculptures
Fairys (that perhaps light and keep the candles burning)
Lots of glitter and tinsel
And how about:
Tinkling bells
Secret Santa parcels under the trees
Crackers (like those from Parry Potter)
Indoor fireworks
Party Poppers
Chocolate tree decorations (little snacks)
Is this also the place to discuss food?

We should have a champagne fountain, or rather a hot cocoa one if we don't want to serve alcoholic beverages for all us under age people. Cake, trifles, sweet apples, tarts, pie, custard, pudding, cookies, biscuits, and knickerbocker glories galore!
