 Coniferous!

So.. do a lot of people here buy fake trees? We usually go out and buy a live one 2 weeks or so before Christmas so that it won't die before then. I admit it takes a bit more care, but you do get that "piney" smell Ms. G was talking about. :-D

Yeah, there should be a slogan:

"Get in the Christmas spririt not the Commercial one!"

If anyone wants to see what kind of tack we have over here in the way of decorations, here are some things that people will (no doubt) be buying:

It seems that every year the commersialism gets even worse. Whatever happened to simpler times where the most people bought was a tree to decorate, and some lights to put up in the lawn?

Wait, JF, I don't get those links, they're all the same thing, and they have nothing to do with decor, or am I just dumb?

Whoa! That is really weird. I'll try to post them again.

Ok, I can't post the links so in the "product search" box just copy these item numbers in one at a time:

824647
821 481
817 681
825 853

I hate the tacky 'Christmas' decorations on the front of people's houses. All the plastic, and inflatable whatevers, it looks hideous. I wish people would stop competing for the tackiest front of house award. It really puts me off christmas. Most people have forgotten the whole spirit of the thing. What is the world coming to? :P

No, I have no idea why my mother bought it so early....oh, well....I think it will live if I look after it. I'm like the plant saver in my house. The plants only live because I maintain them. My mother, on the other hand, is a plant bane, though I doubt she is intentionally. She just doesn't have the time to water them and take care of them.

Fwee! I'm kinda like that too, only it's more with stuff in the greenhouse. I water them when I go to feed the animals, otherwise mum forgets.

I think it is a bit too early to put decorations up but neither do I like leaving it too late, as then Christmas comes and goes so quickly. I think were getting earlier every year, but it's usually convenience that causes this.

I do hate people decorating their houses too much on the outside. There is a particular close near me, that have already had their decorations up for 2 weeks, and I know from past experience, they haven't even started yet. It is like a competition between them all every year. It looks so tacky. Lights and wreaths is one thing but inflatable homer simpson's??

 What happened to good ol' fashioned, traditional decorations?

Lol, I have the same opinion. And what happened to fruit christmas cake with alcohol in it? (I must say, although I'm not a great alcohol lover, spirits in a christmas cake make it taste mighty fine) Nowadays people have sponge and chocolate. Tis so odd. :frust: And mince pies aren't what they used to be.....

*Rolls eyes* Hark at me, moaning on.

I'm not a great lover of Christmas cake (although in recent years I have been tempted by Sayers and Greggs' Christmas slices). Ah, you should really try Greggs' mince pies - they are the best! :-) I also like Asda's or Morrisons iced mince pies. Yum. We usually have a yule log and lots of frozen deserts as were not Christmas cake people and it usually goes to waste. We also get the Cadbury's mini yule logs etc as little added treats. Turkish delight, and lots of different types of chocolate make the perfect Christmas spread. Not forgetting Quality Street and Roses - Christmas wouldn't be the same without them. :D

We always have a yule log every year. It's become almost a tradition really. Plus we've never quite been into cake that much. We used to buy ours from a local bakery until Mum finally found a good recipe and made it herself. I love baking during Christmas time so I joined in of course.

On an added note: Asda's iced mince pies are delicious! Some of the best I've ever tasted. :P

Were usually too busy to bake. Although ee usually make mince pies but they are never as nice as bought ones. :teehee: Some of Asda's grub is really nice (although I prefer Morrison's). They have a good selection of Christmas cakes and party food. We just bought two tins of Quaility Street and Celebrations. *can't wait to eat them*

:P Christmas Cake is possibly the best cake, or food of any kind, ever invented. You can't match the layer of marzipan, and then the icing. Wonderful. I normally manage to consume at least 2 slices on both Christmas and boxing day. I would have more if my parents didn't restrain me :D

And we make our own sweets for Christmas. Delicious stuff, I can't get enough of the food at christmas. It's the only time of year where food is available as much as is ideal for me....

All the time :P

Mmmmm, you sound too like me. You can't get a decent conversation out of me on Christmas day until I have food.

And marchpane, how divine. I LOVE it. Then the icing, and all the little cut out holly leaves and berries.

:frust: Now I want cake. *Moans*

*stomach gurgles*

All this talk of food has made me hungry.

And Este - if I could explain the presence of you being on our doorstep on Christmas Day I would love you to come.

My mother just makes either cheesecake or pineapple upside down cake for Christmas, both of which are really good. All of this talk about cake makes me very hungry and envious.
