Well, I'm slightly bored and severely confused...I'll try to make it though I'll be watching the movie as I'm studying or doing my homework (I love multitasking).
The first time I watched the movie, it was two weeks after it came out on VHS (when they had that) and DVD. My brother and I were bored and decided to persuade my mother to let us rent the Fellowship of the Ring. I had heard good things about it so I thought why not, let's take a chance. So we rented it and watched in the very small TV in my room. I think it was literally love at first sight. I loved the movie the minute you hear Galadriel's voice. When I went back to school (I first watched the Lord of the Rings on a weekend), I told my friend that I have seen and fallen in love with it. He was fairly happy that he had converted me. After that, I became a fan...I have so much to thank that moment of Galadriel's voice.

I'm sorry if I look incredibly stupid, but what exactly do the mods have in mind for this?

PS. Next year, we could do the fifth anniversary of The Two Towers!!

Yes, my parents don't like the idea of fantasy. But then, when I turned 16, my dad said he wanted me to make my own choices about it... and so that’s when I got into LotR! :D

Wow, such interesting stories everyone! I LOVE reading stuff like this!

Here's the idea. It'd be nice to have three (3) different viewings, so that people in different time zones all have an opportunity to watch it. There'll be one for Aussies, one for Europeans, and one for those in North America. Anyone is welcome at the other viewings. :)
The line party will start a few hours before the Australian showing, and end when the North American showing begins. :-D
What we need is to figure out a time table.

Post where you are, your time zone, and what time would be best. We'll figure out the average, basically.

Remember to tell your friends!

 5 YEARS?!?!?!?!

Has is really been that long? Good lord. Well, I guess so. I was a freshman in highschool when I saw it. Jeez, I'm dating myself there. Ha ha ha. Let's see, I went January 11, 2002 to the 7:30 pm showing (kind of sad that I remember that - I actually think I still have the movie ticket stub somewhere...actually, I know I do). And I was actually dragged to it by a really good friend of mine. I'd seen the previews, and DID think it looked good, buuuuuut I was sick and tired of all the movies being made into films and totally sucking and I loved the books (The Hobbit included) SO much, that I was afraid that they'd get it TOTALLY wrong (Oh how naive I was...). I remember we went out to eat (having bought the tickets SEVERAL hours prior) and then we waited in line. The largest and longest line I had ever seen up to that point. (The longest ones after seeing FOTR, were TTT and ROTK...imagine that ;) :P ) I felt a bit awkward, being the minority wearing "normal" clothes. :P I walked into the theatre feeling VERY skeptical. However, after the prolouge (which I thought was pretty cool) the first moment that I saw Hobbiton I knew everything was going to be okay. (It was exactly how I had imagined it when I first read the Hobbit when I was a wee lass) :) After I walked out of the theatre, I was a changed gal. :) I kind of ignored my friend (he was my boyfriend at the time - which he didn't appreciate) because I was in my own world of LOTR. :)

So, YAY!! I'll definately be doing this! I was planning to anyway! :) Have a little anniversary! :) But 5 YEARS?! Jeez! I sadly don't have the theatrical version, just the EE. Maybe I can steal one of my friends'. YAY!!!

:bounce:

THen we all went out to eat at some fancy restraunt, where omd, did we turn heads.

 Good Lord, that restaurant was a bit of a nightmare, with what our having to wait... and wait... and wait for our food, until a half hour to go
( :swoon: ), and then, when the food finally arrived, we discovered that the grownups had ordered Spaghetti for everyone.

We were all in costume, and they wanted us to eat SPAGHETTI!! :dizzy:
I know some of the big girls (how strange that sounds, when I'm that age now) decided not to eat anything at all, but I just rolled and tucked my huge elven sleeves as far as they could go, tucked the biggest napkin I could find into my collar, and thank Eru, I got no stains. :punk:

I know what you mean, Caunion, about Galadriel's voice. The moment I heard it, I got such a thrill, chills running up and down my spine. *shivers* :-D This, I knew, wasn't gonna be just any old movie. This was a Tolkien adaptation.

My best friend's little sister (she was about 6 then) was sitting about 2 rows behind us, and to this day, I can hear her voice ringing loud and clear throughout the theater: "LEGOLAS IS CUTE!" Out of the mouths of babes.

One other moment worth of notice was near the end. I was basking in the moment, getting all emotional over the battle on Amon Hen, when all of a sudden, from the back of the theater comes this loud, booming alarm. Or at least, that's what I (and a good portion of the theater) thought. I gripped my pouch (no purses when in costume!), and swiveled my head in the direction the sound came from, (I saw many others do the same) thinking to hear an announcer's voice saying "Please remain calm and head to the nearest exit. There is a fire in the building," when Legolas says "The Horn of Gondor!"

Oh.

:laughbounce:

Driving home (we lived an hour away from the theater), it was such a beautiful, crisp and starry night that I just pressed my nose against the window, staring up at the sky and thinking lovely elvish thoughts. It sure had been a beautiful night. :)

I think it's a great table. I totally agree. In fact i'm going to post it on my own forum.

Memories...

Let's see, I first watched FotR A few days after RotK came out on DvD. Yeah, that late. I was 11 at the time, so I couldn't have before anyway. I was going over to my friend's house and she asked what movies I had to bring. Well, we had The Fellowship of the Ring, (I think my dad had borrowed it from my Grandmother) and I told her we had it and she said to bring it. (btw she's not a fan and thinks i'm weird) She thought it was scary  but I loved it. Then I read the books and watched TTT and RotK.

OOOO I can't wait! :D :D

Memories - Well, I remember when I was WAAAY younger my mom read me the Hobbit, but she wouldn't let me read the Lord of the Rings because she thought I'd be scared (psshh! :P). So anyway, then when the movie came out, I must've been 9, she wouldn't let me see that either. Her and my dad went and saw it though and loved it, so when it came out on DVD we bought it and I finally convinced my parents to let me watch it :D I instantly fell in love and immediately started reading the books. And then when TTT and RotK came out in theaters, I saw them right away :) though never in costume :(

Sudden thought: Is

too early for our members on Pacific Time? Because the line party would start at 2pm (still in school) and the movie at 3:30, which would give them no time to enjoy the line party. I could bump that viewing a bit later...

Thoughts?

I remember going to FOTR on dec. 31 of 01, at the 10:00 showing.
I did not like the movie at the time, I had not read books or anything. I wasn't even a fan of LOTR.
FOTR gave me nightmares the first time I saw it.

Oh I have to agree! When I first heard her voice I was just kind of paralyzed with awe and excitment. And then the moment that sold me, like I said above, was when you first see Hobbiton. :)

And that was funny that there was a fire right at the moment of the "The Horn Of Gondor"!! Ha ha ha! CRAZY!!

And I agree, the night that I saw it was so pretty! It just seemed to fit LOTR! :) Ahhh...the memories!

Somehow this makes me feel sad and happy at the same time...

I was only ten when FotR came out, and eleven when I saw it, but I remember being absolutely mesmerized all the way through, and I cried when Gandalf fell...and Boromir died...but I wasn't truly obsessed until a while after RotK was out, so unfortunately I have no fun theater stories.

I will try my very hardest to come!!! Let me see...that's a monday, isn't it? I think I get off school that week...*goes to figure out what times those are in MST* Is Ohio MST?
