"We made a pact to serve the gods," Sage hissed, and suddenly he didn't look quite as benign. "We know not of the war, but we know your kind seek to annihilate the gods. Why?"

"If I tell, you'd probably blast us to infinitesimal pieces," Kendath observed.

The druid's gray eyes scorched him through.

"Let's just say the gods happen to be imbeciles. Fortunately, we're present to eradicate their filth."

"How would you know?" Merrin lashed out, incensed. "You know nothing! How dare you -"

She clenched her teeth, closing her eyes for a moment as if to control her temper. "Dedication, I admire. But senseless degradation of that which you know not of - !" Belatedly, the girl realized her knuckles were white from the intensity with which she was clutching her seat, and released them, folding her arms tightly.

"My apologies. Continue - ah - sir," Merrin politely, if a little crisply, said to the druid.

"You are naive," Kendath replied coldly, without the faintest trace of human emotion. "Empty promises. Empty lies. You know nothing. How can you, when you've lost nothing your entire life?"

Sage glared at Kendath to shut him up. Gray eyes softening, he looked at Merrin. "You are not with them, child?"

"Of course not...can you see someone as weak as that being a Meiltha?"
She turned swiftly back to Sage "Why should you choose to help the Gods, they gave you nothing..." the pin coiuld no longer be seen it was moveing so swiftly

"Yes, I am naive," Merrin shot back, glaring. "Would you not prefer naivete to living in persistent cynicism, not believing or trusting in anything? I am not weak," she continued furiously, whipping around to face Evlyn, "though inexperienced I may be; if being a Meiltha means displaying the kind of apathetic mistrust of everything that you have shown, why I would want to be one escapes me."

She took a breath and looked at Sage. "No. I'm not. They - they - ah, no, never with them!"

Sage was watching the proceedings with mild interest. "Indeed, child," he mused aloud, patting Merrin's shoulder. "You are innocent. So grieving, seeing such innocence thrust into a cruel world." His eyes misted over. "You are free to stay or go as you like. But you two" - his expression hardened - "we shall detain you until we deem fit."

With a swift word of magic, both he and Merrin dissipated from the room. Merrin soon found herself standing in a chamber not unlike the one she'd just left, but with the door standing invitingly open.

Merrin blinked. Then she blinked again. "O - oh," she stammered to the empty room, feeling rather disoriented. Then reality set in. "Free to go..." she breathed, sitting down rather unsteadily. "Wyvern - !"

Drawing a shaky breath, she glanced at the door and leaned back, closing her eyes. One night, I'll stay. I can't remember the last time I slept - really slept. Then a disturbing thought struck. "No," she said aloud, opening her eyes. "After all that? Gods, no."

And managing to suppress it, Merrin glanced outside - where the sky was already beginning to darken - and with a sigh stretched out on an inviting pile of cushions and was within seconds asleep.

Kendath swore and punched the wall. He came away nursing bleeding knuckles. Still muttering oaths, he collapsed on the couch, poured himself a glass of wine, and downed it in one swallow. He glanced at Evlyn. "Any ideas?"

"We kill him the next time he apperas, then kill everyone else we see...or we dig his heart out with a blunt spoon....no...no idias..."

"Where did they go?" Kalma said impatiently as his eyes narrowed.

Garthag cursed quietly "Some sort of teleportation magic... very clever actually as we could not see it coming, but perhaps, if we..."

"We? You mean you?"

Kalma hissed as he layed down lazily against a tree and almost threw Garthag off him, the mage quietly sighed and dropped from Kalmas back. Arguing would lead them nowhere and one had to see what happened to the others, Garthag ventured forth in the shadows and with his eyes concentrated on the woods around him. Suddenly it hit him, literally something hit him hard in the face and he fell on his back. He felt as, if he was being taken somewhere and suddenly he found himself in a dark hallway.

It was dimly lighted and there was a door before him or so he at least thought, he brushed the blood that had come out of his nose by the hit in the face. He stumbled forth and opened the door, he stepped into the room and funny enough the door disappeared all of the sudden as, if it had never been there.

"Clever"

He stated briefly before looking around the room to realise he was not alone, there were actually three others there already. Not what he exactly had in mind as these were the one`s was supposed to be spying on.

"Clever" A man has suddenly appered in the room, she spun round. He wasn't a Druid, but he wasn't Renagade or Meiltha either. "Who and what are you?" she asked menaceingly.

At the intruder's arrival, Kendath leaped to his feet and unsheathed his falchion in one fluid motion. He'd never physically seen the mage before, but somehow he recognized him...

Of course. Back at their hideout, the mage had approached Demon with the bribe.
