Well I figured that most rap/hiphop/R&B songs consist of maybe five words that they repeat over and over again for three minutes, and the so-called "artists" make millions out of those few words. Ridiculous, much? Some people work so hard and they can't even make 1/12 of what these rappers do. Ugh.

I'd like to hear this multimillion dollar 5 worded song you are talking about.

*pulls out sword and shield* Ha. This is kind of fun. The battle of the genres. We shud retitle this thread 'Rock vs Rap...the battle of the century'

All right, I guess I will give some input here. I think it is, again, about why you listen to music. You can dance to rap, but its ten times harder to dance to rock. If you listen to music for the lyrics, you generally don't like rap quite so much because the words just don't reach you.

Neither genre is perfect. I am personally into the rock genre, but I mean come on. At least rappers aren't making videos about vampires and people in fish tanks, right? (I do like those vids...but thinking from an outside perspective). People can argue that all rock artists and emo rock pansies who only sing about breakups (this is what my brother always says), but it doesn't mean that they are. It's all in the way you percieve things. Rockers sing about heartbreak, Rappers sing about hook-ups. Comparing the two is kind of a weird thing to do since they are so different. we could sit here and trash each other all day if you like though... *turns up weirdo pansy emo (but not really all emo) rock really loud*

Emo people scare me to some degree. Then again, so do the bunnies people put up around easter...

I'd rather dance to rap then cry in a rock song, so I dunno about that...

Perhaps rock just isn't my thing, and rap isn't yours. Does that work for you?

Another reason I don't particualrly care for rock is that I quickly get bored with all of the flowy music; I like it how sometimes the beats will get all choppy and such.

Then again, I dunno...

I'm not the biggest rap fan, but there are some artists I like. For example, I do like Immortal Technique, The Insane Clown Posse, and Outkast...but that's about all the rap I can tolerate.

well thats assuming ALL rap is about hook-ups and ALL rock is about heartbreaks, which, as i keep trying to say, ISN'T TRUE!

LOL! Sorry, can't do that. The ONLY songs my sadly strange rocker of a brother listens to are so sad and depressing...

Before anyone gets angry at me, Daniel is strange by all standards, not because he likes rock. ;)

I'm sure he and I would be best buddies, as all of us sad, depressed, possibly emo boys have to stick together. :P

I think the distaste I have for rap (It's all my brother's fault... I'll tell you why if you want) has driven me to listen to exclusively rock...

*Plods off to listen to depressing rock songs*

I don't particularly like rap. . though some individual songs can be good, my iPod doesn't consist of any rap. It's just a matter of taste really. I enjoy music that has a proper melody in it more :bye2:

I don't personally like listening to rap, but I think its great for dancing to. I'm actually thinking about taking up hip-hop dancing. The problem I have with rap is that it isn't "easy" for me to listen too, and it's usually dirty. I prefer rock. And I love emo rockers :P

*GASP* I didn't see this thread before! I've got some stuff I'd like to say, although I haven't read all of the pages, so forgive me if I say something that's already been said or something.

Ok. First of all. Several people here are assuming that rap is the best music to dance to. If you are one of these people, you are wrong. The best music to dance to is techno. At least, I think so.

Rap, as a whole, annoys me. To me, it's not even really music. It's people talking to a beat. Any idiot can talk to a beat. The lyrics to MOST rap songs are shallow with little to no meaning except getting high and having sex. I'm not saying that there isn't the occasional rap song that has a deeper meaning, but rap in general is pretty much all the same to me, and I hate all of it.

It's really hard to do Rap vs. Rock, and it's actually impossible since there are so many different genres within the Rock genre. There's alternative, indie, metal, emo, punk, classic, etc. I like rock music. Of many and most kinds. It's not right to assume all rock is depressing. In fact, most of it's not. The problem is, a lot of rock songs have that deeper meaning behind them that rap lacks. Rock songs are about more than getting high. People don't know how to handle that. They want to believe that the world is perfect. If something comes up that reminds them that it isn't, they shun it as "depressing." Meaningful and depressing are not the same thing. It frustrates me that people assume that.

It comes to this: People have different tastes. We're never going to agree. That's why it's a good thing that we can pick our own music. I listen to rock. If somebody else listens to rap, I don't really care, since I don't have to listen to it.

Erm.... I had a whole lot more interesting things to say, but they all seem to have left me suddenly. Therefore, I'm going to shut up and hit the submit button.
