True... but I don't mind if that legend dies. He would still live on in the world as just that: a legend. Kind of like in real life. We still refer to Davy Jones' locker and so on, but he's obviously not real.

i beg to differ, you may not think he's real, or his locker eigher, but some of us(me) think hes real...
Now, the thing with Davy is he's almost more...human than Barbossa, he's close to crying during the whipping scene, and i think if he dies, it will make it more emotional for the viewers, than when barbossa "died". I really would prefer it if Davy didn't die, he has a job and if theres no Davy, theres no Locker, and where will all of those terible souls go when lost at sea? If will indeed does take over the FD, Davy's probably dead and...yeah, its confusing...

Davy seemed to be enjoying the whipping to me, not near tears. Oh well, that's beside the point.
I personally felt sorry for Barbossa when he died. I don't any more when I see it, because I know it's not permanent... but I've tried to feel sorry for Davy, and for some reason I find it difficult.
And where would all the souls lost at sea go?... Well, Heaven or Hell, depending. I don't actually believe the sea legends, even though sometimes I believe Middle Earth is real.

He is crying, I think, but not because of the whipping. Davy's tale is incredibly tragic, and his past continually haunts him and causes him immeasurable grief. Right before that scene, we see him playing the organ. He's visibly struggling there; pouring out all of his grief, hatred, and passion into the notes (as someone who frequently plays the song myself, I can attest to the fact that it's really good for blowing off some steam). This venting interrupted by commotion on deck, and when he goes to settle it, he learns of Bootstrap and Will's relation. He handles it well, like a good captain, but such strong emotion as he was feeling just moments before does not simply fade away that quickly. He's miserable. Misery loves company, and he's just found a way to make two other men equally miserable (remember, "Life is cruel. Why should the afterlife be any different?!"). So he essentially takes it out on them. If you look closely, you can see that he's crying (though it almost seems that he's trying to look like he's enjoying it). Not because it's a tragic scene or because he feels sorry, but because he is completely and utterly miserable.

Ah, well, I only saw the movie twice, and I was turned away through most of that scene both times. The first time I was physically in pain and I lay awake the next three or four nights unable to sleep because Will's cries were ringing in my ears (and I'm serious, no matter how cheesy it sounds). I only kind of vaguely noticed Davy during the scene. Your banner on that part (PotR) makes me flinch every time, and my stomach feels like it turns over.
That makes me feel more sorry for Davy Jones, which is good, because he has a tragic history, and I really want to feel sorry for him. The fact that his pain was too much to live with but not enough to cause him to die... I've felt like that at times, and have certainly wished I could cut out my heart, or at least what's left of it. I feel sorry for him.
I think that right now... my thoughts are that the ideal ending for Davy would be for him to turn good. Of course, that's what I say about everyone...

The reason I like Davy better than Barbossa is his tragic hstory. I like viilains with feelings and passion, and Davy has plenty of both. I can really relate with him because I'm going through one of the worst times in my life right now, and I'm dealings ith losing a lot of friends, as well as someone, um, very important to me.
I also play his song a lot.

Thanks. *smiles slightly*
I kind of identify with Davy Jones... I mean, I don't think I would ever become evil, but I identify with his pain more. I certainly can identify with him more than with Barbossa.

I play Davy's song a lot too I'm doing it for my formal piano concert in January. I also play Jack Sparrow, The Kraken, I've Got My Eye On You...occasionally Davy Jones' organ piece...
That's actually the thing that bugs me about Jack. With him you never seem to get deeper than the surface except for a few choice moments, you know?

Atariel Frodo, Oh, that scene where Bill whips Will is so moving and emotional it jsut tears me to peices. You being upset about it was not cheesy it was human. I also was very uspet durring that part. In fact, I cried and cried durring that scene
Meldawen, I totally get what you are saying. I think that for me to actually grow to like Jack I would really have to have more background for him and reasons for why he does what he does (other than just he's a pirate) and I would have to like what I saw. However sadly right now we have been denied that. Perhaps we will see a little bit more of who Jack really is and the reasons behind his actions durring the next one since they are bringing his father into the picture...

The thing that also convinces me even more that it'll end up W/E is that we only ever seem to see the real Jack, without all the affectations and witty comebacks, when he's with his ship. Or, as in DMC, when he's about to lose his ship. Now, the only way I can view the movie is from choice bits I find on YouTube (and that's not much, believe you me) but I do seem to remember a pretty unhappy Jack when he's confronted with the fact that they'll have to leave the Pearl if they want to to live. And oddly enough, he seems not overly opposed to the idea of dying with the Pearl, which he demonstrates. Whereas...I don't know about any of you...but he doesn't seem quite that despondent at the idea of leaving Elizabeth, does he?
Those were all spontaneous ideas that came to me as I was writing, but let me know if y'all think I'm on the right track

That makes a lot of sense. And I agree with it. We need PotR to come in and share her thoughts on it... *looks around for PotR*

Yeah. And not to say that Elizabeth will restrict him. But Jack is a man of his own freedoms, who comes and goes as he wishes. Does what he wants, goes where he wants. Elizabeth is and would be a constriction to him, and I become even more convinced that what Jack has for Lizzie is lust and all he really wanted was "just a taste".
