We were friendly in WW1. Random thought, but I am currently supposed to be doing my essay on it...I should really get on with that...

Think about how many times historically that we were fighting tho lol and ww1 balances out. And besides, we ahd to save the French from the Germans in WW2 anyway, coz they made defences that coulndt cover all roads. Stupid Huh?

Funny that you say that.
That's a very British stereotype, but for you lot its more like "pinpricks and stuck-up"

Of course, I don't think so...but that's how you guys are categorized...no doubt us Americans are worse though.

We have trodden on a few toes we have in our history. Mostly French toes. I might count up French Victories in wars we have had between us and then see whos won th emost.

^^Well, Ms.Gamgee, most of Europe are under the impression Americans are greedy fat pigs, though seeing as 127 million American adults are obese and we are the proud founders of McDonald's, it's pretty easy where they got that conclusion from. If you go a little more to the east, say the Middle East, the ultra-fanatics there think we are infidel crusaders. But we all know stereotypes are usually false.

But just in case, I'm Asian so....

^Well, let's see...I know the English won the Battle of Crecy and Agincourt in the Hundred Years' War. I also remember Richard I of England was theo only king left in the Third Crusade after the French king ran off. Oh, and then there was the battle of Trafalgar. I know the French won the battle of Orleans but that's all I can think of.

^What, the idea of an American being a greedy fat pig?
Hmm, this is going to be a nice project - counting up English victories over the French.

I'm really not the type of person to stereotype nor do I encourage it. Makes me sad to see humans labeling other humans in such a way. :disgust: It may be true, but that doesn't mean we should do it.

Ah, counting English victories over French are we? Interesting... *flips through history book*

Whoa, this thread has gotten into hostile territory.

I personally having nothing against the French. The people, the culture. They are no worse than others.

I have nothing against the Americans although certain things are left to be desired. I.e Bush, ficticious wars, oil etc. But that's not the average Americans fault, just the people that lead them and control things.

Anyway, any nice topics going?

I have no problem with the French... but weren't the French mad at the US about entering the Iraq war? Just wondering.
I dont normally like stereotypes, highschool stereotypes are fine but Americans being "fat-pigs" is kind of borderline... Most people watch their weight (like I am trying to do).

French vs. English battles. Hmm.. intresting topic! I really dont know about that one.
Random Topic: Pro-war or Anti-war in WW1 and WW2
(I only ask that because most of it took place on European land)

Well, I have nothing against the French (or the Americans - I'm just anti-Bush, but that's the wrong place for this :D ) , but I get sick of people going like: "Oh ha ha the English lost the battle of Orleans/Avignon/whateverelse! Poor you!" *is puzzled* What the heck does that have to do with me??

Any opinions on this?

That just reminded me of a woman I met when I was in England last year. She was a bit a sloshed and told me that the Battle of New Orleans was the reason for the American 4th of July and it was at the end of the hundred years war. LOL!

I don't know why people would say something like that to you Valenta Aillard. That sounds a bit stupid. But then again Americans have been known to be overly patriotic and say really dumb things :eyeroll: .

I hate the whole bringing up victories/defeats in wars thing...I just think that anyone who would use defeat in a conflict to ridicule a country obviously doesn't realise the impact that war has on the entire world. And I find it really disrespectful to soldiers that died, to have their sacrifice used in a petty argument between ignorant people....

Sorry if that sounded a bit rantish :) Lots of my family were in WW2. But I think every country has a pre-set kind of stereotype. It's only some annoying people that take a stereotype seriously.

Wootles! I'm an Ent!
