Star Gazer wrote: Landen sat infront of his father as a child, speaking of his being an exalted--
He now walked through the woods, a tall teenager, marching home beaming with his first deer kill--
Landen, as a young adult knealt on a grave with tears in his eyes, his mother's grave...
Many memories flowed through the mental connection, including some that revealed his loyalty - the gifted and the exalted.
(Moving this ahead a little..I'm bringing in my twist, so yeah..)
Eventually, the Questioner released Landen, and gave a brief nod, as if to say there was nothing to worry about. With an air of expectation, he moved down the line to Varna, took the young man's head between his hands, and after what seemed just a few brief moments, released him. Another nod was given, and it was then Rylin's turn..
As soon as the man approached, Rylin sat up, ramrod straight, and gazed up at the Questioner with a look akin to hatred in his eyes. He, however, didn't pull away as hands were put to both sides of his head, and the flood of memories began..
A field of battle, corpses lying everywhere, and Rylin, with Raina, kneeling and sobbing over two of the bodies, both of which had red hair..their parents.
Another battlefield, this time one with Rylin a young man, not over fifteen, black tattoes on his face, giving him an almost demonic appearance. The sword in his hand, though battered, was covered with the blood of men he had slain..
Rylin, as an adult, his ears pierced through in several places and fitted with black steel rings and serpentine symbols..
Rylin, having a serpentine symbol tattoed along the entire length of his right forearm, proudly admiring the work..
As if burned, the Questioner released Rylin. He had seen enough... "Malre divh!" (Blood Serpant, an assassin's guild.)

Aranel jumped from her seat at the words. She looked to the male elf with red hair, Rylin she thought his name was. "Malre divh," she whispered in wonder and fear.

Latanya closed her eyes. A thought struck her. She could use the powers she had been trained to use... she could leave, escape the Questioner. She decided against it.

Landen's head snapped toward the two as the words were spoken. Wide-eyed, he stared at Rylin.

Without warning, the Questioner siezed Rylin's shoulder in a vice-like grip and pulled him to his feet. He then moved Rylin's hair enough to reveal his ears, and sure enough, there were piercing holes in each. Next, water was conjured almost out of nowhere and poured over the elf's head, and with the water came off paint, in the same skin tone, and it revealed the black tribal tattoes on his face. Then, his right sleeve was jerked up enough to reveal the telltale serpentine tattoo on his forearm.
"Assassin." growled the Questioner, and he would have killed the elf then and there, but instead, he glanced to Raina. "And I wager you have the same marks."

"Don't!" Aranel exclaimed, fearing that the questioner would hurt Rylin. She couldn't say why she was defending him. He was after all an assassin. But something within her told her she couldn't let him be hurt.

At this, Landen's face fell. Surely not... he thought, deparetly hoping that at least one of them would not be punished, not that he wanted either of them to be.

Both the Questioner and Rylin looked sharply at Aranel, the former with a frown..the latter with a perplexed look. And, with that look, it was as if a connection had been made between the two of them, on some primal level..
"Why shouldn't I? He would probably do the same to us, given ample opportunity! And so would she," here, the Questioner jerked his head towards Raina, "unless my guess is off!"

Aranel's eyes met Rylin's. The connection she had felt when she had first realized his life was in danger grew stronger. What did it mean? Bewildered, she turned back to the questioner. She tried her best to fix him with a firm glare, but her thoughts were so mixed up that she wasn't sure if she suceeded. "You mustn't," she told him, "They have not shown any ill intent yet."

Landen had now had it with this over judgmental man. Standing up, he had gotten into one of his snappy moods again.
"Do not speak of what you do not know for sure! Past is past. Even if they are assasins, it would be wise to give them a chance first before comdeming them to death. He looked to Rylin, then to Raina,
"They are still beings. People. Just like yourself. And everyone deserves a second chance to prove themseves... I had to have mine, and it was one of your kind who gave it to me. Surely you are not a coward - if you arn't, you will give them a chance. Besides, you havn't a clue about the girl yet."

"People do change," Latanya added.

"Veir nal echt.." Rylin muttered darkly, wincing at the tightening grip on his shoulder. "I have changed."
Undaunted, not by the words of either of the elves, but by so other matter, the Questioner finally released Rylin, yet fixed him with a baleful stare. "One false move, and I will see to it that your head is removed from your shoulders."
Rylin just nodded curtly in response, then began rubbing his shoulder. It felt as if the bones had been splintered. "Do you wish us to explain?" he asked the room at large, not meeting anyone's gaze directly. "If it means life, we will..or, if you prefer, you can just kill us now."

Landen sat back down.
"If I was to choose, I would leave it up to you - as I said, what is past is past, and is not worth mentioning unless the past is still present, which it never is." He then turned to the questioner,
"And if you so much as touch Raina's head I will 'see to it that your head is removed from your shoulders'." He retorted, squinting his eyes to emphesise his point.
