is there such a thing as a typical british birthday cake? personally, i've always had great birthday cakes cuz my mum's made them - i've had a 3D castle, a 3D winnie the pooh, and homemade battenburg, among others. the best was probably the fieldmice's picnic one - the main cake was the table, and there were chocolate logs for the benches, and then my mum made little mice and cups and plates and stuff out of icing. it was amazing!

oh, and JF - any chance i could make it onto the member list? *flutters eyelashes prettily*

:D My mum always does mine too. I think for my 14th birthday I went a bit backwards and had a fairy castle cake. And then she put all little cup cakes with people's initials on. It was fabulous.

Wingfoot, that is a cake, and then three more. And it looks delicious.

The best cake I ever had was a Dougal one (you know, from the Magic Roundabout :P) It was fantastic, and the icing was at least a centimetre thick on the outside.

I only have one problem when it comes to sweets in general: I have an extremely low tolerance *sigh* I always want to eat more, but feel sick when I see them *bigger sigh*

But my grandma makes this sponge cake with 6 layers, cream en masse and chocolate all over ...

Gah, I ate far too much chocolate today. It didn't help that I had to melt down white and milk chocolate and then mix them up...just to see what it would taste like...(I would highly recommend it :P). I set fire to a tea towel in the process but..er...

Haha, nice one, Wingfoot. White and milk chocolate melted together....sounds really good. I should try that sometime in the near future. *adds that to the ever growing list*
