Faramir and Eowyn's romance is one of my very favorite, if not my favorite, of all time. It's so incredibly beautiful. I'm pretty sure that I'm not alone in this.
So I'd like to hear others' opinions. If you like their romance, what exactly do you think makes it so beautiful?

What do I think? I think that both of them were hurting somewhat, both sort of from rejection and loss. But then when they came together they found healing.

*agrees with The Nightingale*
I think that's also the reason why they fit to each other so well. They can understand each other's feelings like nobody else.
I really like their romance, it's really nice

The Lord and Lady of two Kingdoms falling in love. It reminds me some of when Prince Valacar of Gondor fell in love with Princess Vidumavi of Rhovanion, but without the disastrous results.

I love their romance. It's not too long or sappy, but it's not rushed either. There's also some nice character development there, especially in Eowyn. All Faramir really does is be his sweet, caring, polite, takes-everyone-seriously self! One of the things I love about Faramir is that he doesn't really change drastically. He's just so steadfast, and I love it!

I agree. Faramir doesnmt change much. You almost always see dramatic character development (especially through 3 feature length movies) but I love the fact that he is so steady and solid.
I agree that they are about the best romance. As mentiomed it is not too long and sapoy. It seems deeper than just the surface infatuation and romantic actions. It seems sincere and also as mentioned is a venue for healing in them both.

Interesting, I have a somewhat different perspective.
I think PJ badly misread the role of Faramir. In the books, Faramir is a much stronger character, with Aragorn's nobility and sense of history; as one would expect of a descendant of the noble line of Anárion. In the films he came across as a bit of a dweeb. I simply cannot reconcile Éowyn being enamoured of the character after her crush on Aragorn, based on the film portrayal.
These comments are in no way a criticism of David Wenham's acting capabilities. IMHO, the fault, if there is any since "artistic interpretation" covers much territory, is entirely PJ's.

I had heard that he is different in the book but wasn't sure how much.
That is interesting. My ideas of him, however, being stable and not needing as much development, however stem greatly from his drive to do what is right despite his own fate and even despite a chance to win his fathers "favor" he still turns down the ring.
His motives seem pure and steady from the begining.

... getting back to Miscellaneous Book Discussion The tale of Faramir and Eowyn is rather quite deep considering the amount of coverage it gets among the pages. You have Faramir, critically wounded and then is taken to the Hall of Kings to die by his father's side, but survives and recovers in the House of Healing. And you have Eowyn, who has rode to war against orders of her uncle and King, and there is critically wounded even as she slew the Witch King (with Merry's help). She too recovers in the House of Healing, but only after her darkness is lifted by her talks and interaction with Faramir. It's a beautiful tale in the books.
