Dan was now attacking the last officer standing, but failing terribly because this officer was extremely strong compared to his skinny frame. "SHANNON, open the door! GO!" he shouted loudly at the top of his lungs.

"Don't you have something to say, Mr. Rainey? Or are you just going to be stubborn?" the deputy said with squinted eyes. Brushing back some hair, he walked closer to Mort and whispered, "If you apologize, your punishment might be less painful."

Shannon hesitated, but then did as he said. She nodded to him and then ran for her life out of the parking lot. She was breathing hard and her emotions were high on the charts. But, she had to get out to get Mort and Dan out.

Mort's mouth opened.
Stop
His mouth closed and the eyes behind the glasses shifted uneasily.
You didn't do anything.
Mort looked up into the Deputy's face, but shied back away from his gaze.
No apologizing.
So you know what to do, just do it..
"If you are accusing me of something I did. Your wrong. I've been in this-" he cursed, "-cell for hours..."

Dan came out of the facility running after Shannon. His face was that of desperation and pain. He held his hand tightly to his chest and looked back over his shoulder.....no one was in sight. "KEEP RUNNING!" he screamed.

The deputy's face tensed. He regained composure and said, "I am going to give you one more chance, Mr. Rainey. Apologize and your pain will be less miserable."

Shannon looked over her shoulder and saw Dan following after her. She listened to him and ran as fast as she could. She was in pain and tired, but she needed to get out of there. She needed to help her friends.

"Oh....I see..........." WHACK!!! The deputy had smacked Mort upside the head violently. "Since there is no need to apologize, then I suppose there is no need for me to apologize for what you will experience in a few minutes." He whistled outside of the cell door. Five officers came into the cell and picked Mort up like a rag doll.

Mort squirmed, but it was no use, these men had him, and had him good. "I didn't do nothin'!" he hollared out to whoever would listen.

"Shut up!" said one of the five officers that was carrying Mort.
Curving through various hallways, they soon approached some stairs and headed to the second floor. Entering a large room with a single metal slab in the center and other contraptions set about the room, the officers placed Mort on his feet but held him tightly, so that he would not be able to attack or run.
"Now, Mr. Rainey, I am going to give you some options. Just like the alphabet, Mr. Rainey....choose A,B,C, or D." He shut the door and automatically it locked in place.

Mort swallowed hard. Two worried brows formed over his face. He immediately started to clam up.
He went to speak, but almost found his throat too dry. He didn't want to answer, but he knew he had to, "Uh...D..."

The deputy dropped his head low and looked upward to the officers. "Oh, Mr. Rainey...." he then broke out into an evil laughter. The officers joined him as well. "You picked the worst letter possible. All the letters are devices of torture here in this facility and you chose D....which is all of them." He laughed once again and motioned for the officers to bring Mort to the metal slab.
The officers pushed and shoved Mort toward the table violently. "You deserve this for how you treated the deputy!" one of them said.

Shannon ran as fast as she could, until the facility was almost out of sight. She stopped running under a tree, so she could try and catch her breath. She looked to Dan tiredly and ran her fingers through her hair. "We need to change how we look, before we go back for Mort." She said softly.

Dan arrived under the tree with Shannon and shook his head, "No, we're not going back. We can't help him now." He winced and dropped his head down to his chest, as he released his grasp on his hand.
Placing his right hand in his pocket, he pulled out a pair of car keys. "Here, I managed to grab these as I made my escape." Surprisingly, they were Mort's car keys.

Shannon stared at the keys and then back at Mort. "Dan, I can't just leave him there. He's helped me, so I have to help him." She said and took the car keys. "Oh, Mort's car is underwater at the moment." She said and folded her arms.

Mort tried to push back, but the officers were too strong. "Stop! No, your wrong! I said what I said! I didn't do nothin'!"
His eyes darted back and forth, this time, catching faint glimpses of torture devices.
