"Aye," said Nakaida in agreement with her sister, eyes fixed on the dark sorcerer before her, robed in what seemed a night sky without stars. Winds lifted her hair and cloak, swirling around her like the attendants of a goddess. "Your reign has been long, Lord Okandar - but today it ends, whether you will it or nay!" And she strode forward, head high and arms stretched before her as if to summon the very earth and sky to their aid.

Aeryn took a step forward also, taking out his bow instead of his dagger and notching it.

The laugh that bubbled from Okandar's throat was devoid of all humanity. He lifted his arms, and the tremendous folds of his dark cloak swirled around him.

The next instant he was gone, as if swallowed by the night itself.

The faint runes on the walls intensified until they glared with hellish abandon. All thirteen mages spread into a semi-circle. As one, they lifted their voices in a chilling mantra.

Aery spun around went Orkandar vanished. He keep looking around until he heard shrill high-pitched screams, and he had to lower his bow to cover his ears, for the pain was that bad.

Khienro's enitial reaction to Okandar was fear. Though he would not -could not- at all costs let that show. Though it was probably aleready done, due to the sharp breath he took upon walking into the room. He too put his hands over his ears, cringing, as the devilish cry rang through the room and echoed off the huge stone walls.

Nakaida stood unmoving, the mages' unearthly cries echoing in her ears. But perhaps some gift from the Goddess enabled her to stand firm, eyes searching. "You fight like a coward, Okandar," she declared, her voice that of the many winds that circled her in a maelstrom of air. "I expected better - think you that you need your troupe of mages to subdue us?"

Naidele gritted her teeth in frustration and anger. She tried to ignore the ominous chants and cries of the mages. "Why do you hide, Okandar?" she taunted. She almost had to scream to be heard over the mages. "Why don't you stay and fight?"

[SG I need you as Genrik in Unknown Power]

Okandar didn't deign to respond. Instead, all thirteen mages stopped their chanting at that moment and thrust their hands into the air before them. A towering wall of fire roared to life, spreading outwards from their semi-circle and rushing to consume all in its path.

The heat was intense. Coughing and sweating, Orindil dove to the side and pressed himself against the wall. Arrows would be useless, so he unsheathed his sword. He had to find a way to somehow get close to the mages.

((Ok, I'll be over there in a sec...))

Khienro ducked over to the wall, coughing. Ai! Everytime. Everytime he got into a situation like this. It was always fire. Bringing up the colar of his shirt, attempting to sift out breathable air, he fumbled at his sword, waiting for a moment to attack.

Expression grim, Nakaida shouted a brief command, which echoed and grew in volume until the fire suddenly died, the air around it devoid of oxygen. Blue eyes glowing eerily, she advanced wih arms outstretched and wind assaulted the hooded mages, whipping their robes about them in a frenzy.

The fire, although powerful, didn't affect Naidele that much. She smirked at the mages and lifted her hands. Torrents of flame flew from her palms.

Naidele's torrents of flame took two mages down. The rest ducked aside and would have scattered had their discipline been an ounce less. As it was, they had been trained for this moment and this moment alone. They once more raised their arms and lifted their voices in communal chant.

It was as if the floor had opened up right at their feet.

A yawning rift of blackness seemed to suck in all light, and it was growing by the second. An inhuman keening pierced the air and doused the flickering flames on the torches. From the rift funneled spirits, shrieking, their earsplitting wails driving through all ears like stakes of agony.

Orindil clapped his hands over his ears and stumbled over to Khienro, his one kindred soul in this entire fray. For now he realized that this battle was above his potential, above the potential of any breathing mortal. It fell to the Keepers alone to destroy Okandar.

Nakaida stood helpless, frozen in the midst of the sudden blackness and quailing inwardly at the all-encompassing shrieks of the spirits. There was nothing air could do to stop them - nothing she could do. Overcome by a horrible sense of powerlessness, Nakaida sank to her knees, hands over her ears. "Goddess..." she gasped, heard by no one over the terrible wails. "Goddess, help us..."

((This would be a good opening for Alayna, if Raven hadn't left...someone else want to play her?))
