Suakii nodded.

"Very well. But please, bid our sisters to do the same. We will be nothing without them."

As the shadows of night deepened around the city, a lone figure slipped for the second time out from the north wall. It mounted its horse and galloped north, back towards Genrik's encampment.

Mordev knew full well the dangerous game he played. But rather than let that deter him, he reveled in it.

Driving his steed on, he reached Genrik's army in short time. The sentries on duty immediately leaped up to surround him. For his part, Mordev threw back his cowl and willingly let himself be captured. He was marched by the stone-faced sentries past numerous campfires to the center of camp, marked by a high-flying pennant on the apex of the central command tent.

As they neared, one of the guard captains came forward to confront the problem. His stoic face went from impassivity to a scowl. "Mordev. What brings you back after... five years?"

Mordev inclined his head, his face impassive. "I am hired by Sielio to stop your lord."

"And does marching straight into an enemy encampment relate to stopping Lord Genrik?"

At that, he could only chuckle. "I have seen the forces arrayed against Ikrean. Tell your lord I have returned to reconsider... an offer. Something I turned down five years ago."

The guard captain glared him at him hard. At length he offered a curt nod and motioned for one of the soldiers to relay the message to Genrik.

A whisper rippled through the trees, rousing Rhaeryn from her troubled thoughts. She glanced up. According to the slender beech near the gates, a man had just exited. Strange, though the girl rather detachedly, but did not contemplate it further.

That had been a good hour ago now, and suddenly Rhaeryn wondered who it had been, and send an inquiring tendril of thought out toward the beech. It obligingly told her that he'd been cloaked and it hadn't observed much, and she frowned in perplexity. With battle so near, who would be departing?

As the night continued on, Arielle found herself settling back in to the old, familiar rhythms of sentry duty. Her charges slept, but she paced the hall outside their rooms in a semi-somnolent state, eyes and ears watching for anything out of the ordinary that would bring her to full alertness in half the blink of an eye. She needed her rest, too.

Aivon woke up, stretching liesurely as his senses slowly shifted to alertness. Rolling out bed with a soft thump onto his feet, he completed waking up, the gritty feeling in his eyes vanishing after he blinked a couple of times. He slipped his feet into his boots, wrinkling his nose for a minute at the smell that wafted out of said footwear.

He opened his door and padded down the hall, his boots making quiet thuds on the stone floor. He was going to check the area around the Kianis' suites, just in case anyone had gotten past the guards.

As he rounded the final corner, he stopped short and drew his sword in an instant. The same woman he had seen earlier was sitting in front of the door, looking almost as though she was guarding it. But that couldn't be--he would have heard if something had happened that merited guards.

"What are you doing here?" he asked cautiously, holding his sword in a defensive posture.

Seilio stood bent over an old map that was laying over a large table, captains and advisers surrounded him, pointing and moving the little flags around to demenstraight what they thought was the best plan for attack, the whole thing confuzed him, suddently a female voice caught his attention;
"I hope you have not forgotten your beloved Aunt."
The young king's head shot up, he knew that voice, it was Everya, the only remaning member of his family...he had not seen her in ages. "Everya! what are you doing here? I mean I guss I'm glad you are, but.." he stopped "How did you get here? this castle is practicly surrounded by Genrik's troops."

Footfalls ... Arielle jerked to full consciousness, listening. Heavier footfalls - a man, then. Most likely armed ... yes, there he was.

She ran a seemingly casual eye over his form as he addressed her, sizing him up. He wore the nondescript clothes of a bodyguard - safe to assume he was friendly, then.

Cheekily, she raised her hand, as if toasting him with an invisible goblet. "I could ask you the same question, curious stranger." She drained the imaginary contents of the goblet.

Genrik was surprised at Mordev's decition... Interesting. He sent guards to fetch him and bring him into his tent.
Once he was there, Genrik appeard infront of him, having dissapeared, not knowing who approached.

"Ah, why if it isn't the king's half brother. Why are you here? And more importantly, why did you suddenly change your mind, Mordev?"

Granted, Mordev was a bit daunted in the presence of the none too merciful Kiani who might and could kill him without a second thought. But he kept his face meticulously neutral and dipped his head in a diplomatic salute of respect.

"I am not a fool," he said bluntly. "With the Kiani on his side, my unwitting half-brother stands a chance of winning this war. But now that I have seen your forces in full display... not to mention the mages you've no doubt employed to best effect..."

Before Genrik had the chance to harbor negative thoughts, he continued with a deadpan, "They believe I am on their side. What better method for you to secure your victory than by planting an agent directly in Sielio's court?"

"Leverage, my dear Sielio!" Everya smiled, "I am told you are near the eve of battle. I would like to help in what ever way I can."
Everya bowed her head, "You are my brothers son and my nephew, I owe you my alligence. Please use me in what ever way that you see fit."

Kelenloth, a Mage is a magic user. It's basically another term for Wizard, and it's cooler, too.

I actually wasn't drawing from Eragon for the mind control thing--I was drawing it from A Wizard of Earthsea. The idea is that a Mage could get past someone's mental barriers and take control of their mind or just kill them (really easily). If they take control of their mind, they can use the person against their allies or anyone else.

-----

Aivon's mouth twitched into an unintentional grin at the woman's cheekiness. "I am Aivon, the bodyguard of Rhaeryn, who is quartered here," he said. "Being her bodyguard, I am here to make sure that no one is trying to sneak into her chambers to assassinate her or something. Which means it is my business to know who you are, and what you are doing here."

She had the air of an experienced fighter around her, so he didn't feel like fighting her if it came down to it, but he wasn't sure if would or not--he still could not think of any reason why the Kiani would suddenly have guards posted, but then, he couldn't think of why she was simply sitting outside the door if she was there to kill the Kiani.

ok, thanks, but, on this mind control, how easy is it to block? how strong do you have to be?
-------------------------

"Do I even want to know what you mean by leverage?..no, I really don't, so I won't ask." Seilio rounded the table as Everya stood to her feet, he embraced her slightly, wekcomeing her back. "Oh, how long it's been..." He started as he stepped back. "But, Gah! I'm think I shall go insane; everyone who wants to serve looks to me to give them a place, and everyone who dosn't hates me for giving them one." He turned and put his elbow on the table, resting his head in his hand. "Everya?" He looked up. "How good at making battle plans are you?..or...How good are you at....spying?"

Everya embraced her nephew and smiled, "Both. When your father was King, I took a point to follow his Captains to see if I could learn anything. And I have run into many a spies before, and they told me secrets which would curl your hair.
So, King Sielio, put me at your command, anyway that you see fit."

I think most people can do it--they just have to learn the technique. Since this is an Original idea, we could actually make up our own rules for Magic, but the common idea is that you have to be concentrating on keeping the other person out of your mind--and if it's a two-way thing, you have to be looking for a gap in the person's mental defense to be able to penetrate--to distract them or something so that they lose their concentration.

((Thanks Aerandir!))

"Good! well, come 'round here, let me show you what my captains have in mind" Seilio rounded the table and bekoned Everya to follow, then begain to make his plans known; "We think the best stradegy at this point would be to atack first, not leave it all on our defences; like this;" he moved two small blue flags that stood over the castle marking on the map, takig them back and around the little red flags that represented Genriks camp, wich surrounded the castle in a half moon shape, they would attack Genrik from behind. "I am wondering, what do you know of the Ignae Kiani? Should they go with the attack force or stay with the defences? I think they should go around with the attackers, but, that might not be the best plan." he finished, looking up to his aunt, who was looking down intently, but making no comments or answers just yet "All of this depends on Genrik not attaking untill we get into position...I need you to go out with the spies to findout if he will or not."
