Ok... I'm not an HP fan... I do agree that JK copied Tokien a little, JK also copied Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer --

*Both Harry and Tom are around 11 when their adventures begin

*Both boys are orphans being raised by their mothers' sisters

*Harry lives with a spoiled cousin, Dudley, whom he cannot stand; Tom lives with a goody-goody half-brother, whom he cannot stand

*Until Harry learns that he is a wizard, he leads an ordinary life and knows nothing about magic; Tom also leads an ordinary life, but he is always ready to try out magic spells.

*The friends with whom Harry shares his most thrilling adventures with are a boy, Ron, and a girl, Hermione; Tom shares his adventures with Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher

*While both boys are essentially respectful, They're not above breaking rules during emergencies

*Like the first five Harry Potter stories, which reach their climaxes in dark dungeouns and similar settings, The Aventures of Tom Sawyer reaches its dramatic climax deep inside a pitch-dark cave, where Tom confronts the evil Injun Joe.

1. I don't think J.K took anything from J.R.R, she may have gotten some ideas but stole nothing. If you want to look at a story that is akin to The Lord of the Rings, read Eragon...

2. No that is a cruel question , I got into Harry Potter before Lord of the Rings, so HP has my heart, but LotR has my mind and soul xD

Guys, please don't get into the debate over whether or not JKR copied off of Tolkien. Its pointless, because its really just comes down to personal preference. Plus, the argument has been beaten into the ground, dug back up and beaten in again over and over.

2. harry potter all the way. like pandora said, i have been a true harry potter fan since the sorcerer's stone and only just read the LOTR books about 2 years ago. there's not really any competition for me there. i still love LOTR though!

1. No, JKR didn't copy Tolkien, but some of the themes from LotR are leaked out throughout HP. I know that when I read a really good book, it molds how my writing looks. This may sound really stupid to you, it's just kind of an idea of mine, but I think that people's experiences mold their writing, and that this includes books. Each book a person immerses themselves in becomes "a part of them", in a sense. Gah, that sounds so weird. My point is that I'm not sure if JKR could help having similar themes in her books.
Does that make any sense? If anyone has questions, I don't mind explaining more.

2. I really don't have many favorites in anything. I love Harry Potter, but at the same time, I love LotR. I love Narnia, but at the same time, I'm hooked on Eragon. I can't pick a favorite, because I love the others too much!

Well, I'm a fan of HP. So I'll do my best to answer your questions.

1.No all the way.
2.Well that's a hard question to answer. Part of the reason why it is so hard to answer is because one has ended and the other hasn't. Therfore I must say that I am currently more interested in HP. Though LotR is wonderful (understatment) and both will forever have a special place in my heart.

1. Definitely not. Fantasy is fantasy. Like someone, I believe it was Nienor said earlier, ultimately you can draw parallels between any teo pieces of literature. I'll add, "especially when they're the same genre."

2. I read Harry Potter a long, long time before I read LOTR. Admittedly, I couldn't understand what all the fuss was about with LOTR. I thought Harry Potter was unquestionably the best. Then, i actually saw the movies and read the books for LOTR. And suddenly, I fell in love. Now, although I still love Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings is my faorite hands down. I like the other books people have mentioned as well. I love Narnia and Eragon. But out of all the books I've ever read, LOTR shines above them all. It just has this quality that no other books or movies have for me. It's special.

No, I think she was influenced by other literature as are all authors.

I go through phases. At the moment I'm not particularily interested in either of them (I say with a McGonagall avy & sig ). I'd say that I prefer LotR over HP, and was at one time more obsessed with LotR than I ever was with HP. I love them both though

2. HP or LotR? I can't pick! I go in phases I first started out with HP, so I'll always be in love with that, but LotR is so captivating, I love it too!

1. i don't think she copied, though it probably was an influence. I catch myself using LotR all the time, even in English essays I'll use phrases like "the calm before the storm" and think I was clever enough to come up with that myself.

2. LotR is deeper, but HP is much more fun well, HP is deep in its own way. I'm rereading them now and I keep catching the tiniest references to names and clues that don't become important until three books later.

2) I used to really like Harry Potter when I was about 11/12, but then I went and watched the LotR movies and read the books and became obsessed with them. I didn't think of HP anymore and now I don't really like it anymore. But I still luuv LotR

1.Yes, even if she didnt realise it, i mean come on Dumbledore?(thats a type of bug from Tolkien's world) the Dementiods and the Whomping Willow are far too silmliar for my liking. And the idea of the main charre living with his other realtives becuase his parents are dead,

2.LotR, i have no place in my mind or heart for a Hp obsession, sure i read the books on rainy or snowy days, but LotR is where my heart truly lies(that and PotC)
