[we also need the army to attack... shall I do that as well?]

His thoughts swirling but relatively calm from the mind probe he'd just endured, Mordev galloped from Genrik's camp with a sense of supreme peril. He walked the line, he knew. Yet in the end, whose side would he leap over to?

Why, the winning side of course. Which, at the moment, seemed to favor Genrik.

Rhaeryn stood at her window, detachedly listening to the noises outside, and in a moment had carefully stepped into the arms of the beech tree outside it. Her second-floor room was uncomfortably high and she held choke-tight to the tree as it let her down - but she would much rather this than face Aivon and her siblings right now.

As the tree reached to receive her, though, Rhaeryn thought she caught a glimpse over the walls of a lone horseman galloping back to the city. She frowned. Who would be out on such a night, a night before impending battle?

As soon as her feet touched the ground Rhaeryn made for the palace gate without hesitation, glad for some distraction and curious as to who it was. If, as she suspected, they came into the palace, she would be sure to find out who it was.

Sila watched intently as Suakii worked to get answers from their prisoner. She would have helped, but her talents would not do much good for interregation.

When the guard entered and said that the king wanted to be informed, her eyes narrowed in suspicion. He shouldn't have known about it that fast.

Sila walked up to the guard beside Suakii. She nodded after her sister spoke. "Yes," she added, "If the king wishes for an explanation, please have him present himself here."

The horse balked at the palace gates as a slender figure, ghostly under the pale moonlight, approached. One of the Kiani - Rhaeryn? Had his steed not taken notice, Mordev might have simply run her over in his haste.

His first perturbing instinct was that she knew, but he refuted that notion an instant later. He had utilized supreme caution. Yet... didn't this one possess invisibility?

-----------

"Change of plans."

The sudden proclamation caught Commander Rhik flat-footed. Startled, the soldier hurried after his lord. "Why, sir?"

Genrik's unnerving steel gray eyes flashed, and suddenly it seemed shadows danced upon his stern face. Commander Rhik wisely saw fit to quail under the terrible wrath. But a moment later the tempest had passed. As if nothing had happened, Genrik calmly replied, "Because Mordev knows that we attack at dawn, and I harbor no illusions on the tenacity of his loyalty. Our assassins have been compromised. It is only a matter of time before Sielio finds the agent we have planted right in his Supreme Council.

"We march now."

Commander Rhik saluted and bowed. "Your orders shall be carried out immediately, sir."

(I have final exams this week so I will find myself not having a lot of time to come on after school. If you need to play my characters feel free too. I will try to steal a few minutes here and there but don't count on it! Thanks and sorry!)

Everya was just nearing Greniks army camp on her horse when she saw the jumble of soliders preparing for battle. This could only mean one thing. Quickly she spun her horse around and galloped away back toward the palace to deliver word that battle would be sooner that they thought.

---

Sielio nodded as the gaurd told him the message and entered the room.
"What is this I here about an assassin?" He asked.

Ditto, Amoniel. I know the feeling.

----

Aivon snorted. "I will fetch him," he said, stepping out into the hallway. To his surprise, the king really was there, and not an ambush, as he had suspected. He sheathed his sword and gestured towards the door.

"Enter, my lord, if you will," he said, looking around. Strangely enough, Sielio seemed to have no guards with him besides the one who had entered the room to announce him.

Slipping in and out of the shadows like a ghost, Rhaeryn had not taken the trouble to flicker out of sight - but when the figure, astride a fidgety mount, halted, she belatedly wished she had. Too late now.

Stepping forward, brows knotted in perplexity, Rhaeryn's hand went unconsciously to the hilt of the small dagger at her belt, the only weapon she carried habitually. "Who goes there at this hour, and before impending battle?"

Her voice was sharp and suspicious, mayhap more than she meant it to be.

Everya's mount slid to a halt. Everya looked at the speaker.
"Grenik's army moves, battle is soon upon us." Everya said calmly, her horse reared.
"We should not sit here and waste time, we need to get to the king and tell him the news."

Sielio walked into the room and saw the assassin. He looked frightened but determined.
"Have you recieved any information from him?" He asked, coldly staring at the man.

With a raised eyebrow, Mordev drew back his cowl. He kept his mind carefully guarded - who knew what the Kiani had learned all these five years? He was spared the necessity to lie when a woman drew up beside them.

"Dawn?" he reiterated sharply. He glanced at the eastern horizon. Daybreak was no more than an hour away.

Suakii spread her lips into a fine line.

"Not yet, m'lord. She glared over her shoulder at their prisoner.

"Dawn before a battle nonetheless," snapped Rhaeryn, sharp-tongued in her sudden relief. The mounted figure had appeared very sinister in the dim pre-dawn light. "What in the name of all the gods were you doing?"

Curiousity killed the cat, her mother would say. But Rhaeryn asked the question anyway.

Arielle came forward, behaving as humbly as she could - which for her was a bit of a stretch. "Majesty, we are in the process of interrogating him, and, to tell the truth, probably does not require your personal supervision. We will be certain to inform you of everything possible, once we have extracted it." She realized that she was, very politely, telling her sovereign to clear out - but he must have more important matters to attend to. And she wanted to get on with this, before the assassin decided to commit suicide, as they so often did.

(is Rhaeryn on Sielio's side or Grenik's)

"I just..." the King started but understood the words clearly. They did not want him there.
"We cannot afford to lose any of the Kiani, proceed with caution, we do not know if others will follow him." He said curtly and left.
