**** it! New Line wanted the director to drop two major themes in His Dark Materials because it's scared it isn't going to make it in American theaters. A load of rubbish. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it's ok but to someone like me, I'm pretty upset about it. Hopefully New Line will come back to its sense as well as American theaters.

Eh? You mean the whole "Let's overthrow God!" thing?

*Is still VERY VERY excited*

That is what I meant. The Magisterium, from what I read, will have no connection to the mentioned well-known establishment in an effort to avoid criticisms, boycotts, hate mail, and in some very very radical cases, riots. Well, like I thought.

That isn't surprising... I'm sure they'll get more then enough trouble for having witches. It's been so long since I've read them that I can't remember much but the Specters and the Elephant People. It might be good not to read them again until afterwards if they're making such huge changes.

*explitive* New Line! You know what's wrong with Hollywood is the fact that they just go with the flow. They don't want to make waves. Be...DIFFERENT! GAH! *dies* *resurrects herself*
Honestly, what is the movie going to be about, if not to "overthrow god" as tim4x so wonderfully put it? :P Ha ha ha...*sigh* That's what's wrong with this freakin' country! *goes off on rant completely NOT related to what is SUPPOSED to be discussed here*
*sigh*

Ha ha ha ha..that'd be funny if Liam Neeson played him. I actually wouldn't mind him...although there are some parts in the books that just wouldn't suit him...oh whatever. I'm sure the guy playing him will be fine.
And Caunion, you need to give me a link to that article or something. :P

Yes, honestly...
It's just really hard to not have it or think that way in this world now. Why can't America just realize that it exists and accept people who think differently?

Ok, well, maybe they don't have to name him because he was referred as the Authority and the regent was Metatron and I doubt a lot of people know him. And the entire thing about angels being evil isn't really new in cinema. Constantine made Gabriel evil. And as for witches, witches show up a bit often in movies. One famous one is Harry Potter.

From what I read in an interview with Pullman, his intention for His Dark Materials wasn't to counter Narnia. Mind he and Lewis wouldn't be best mates. I think New Line and American theaters should respect Pullman's original plot and stick to it.

(Yes, I'm being vague on purpose for various reasons)

*Tries to be unfazed by Frosty's post* This was posted on Rotten Tomatoes earlier this week. It is about some footage that was shown to the RT staff...

"The (very early) first footage we saw included:

- Opening scenes from the movie showing Lyra stepping across the chairs in the Jordan dining hall, talking to her Daemon (who wasn’t rendered yet). Beautiful cinematography, sun pouring through the windows. Not a fantasy feel at all, quite earthy and real. Dakota Blue Richards plays Lyra – she looks adorable, but rather acts like a sullen tomboy. She is a perfect Lyra.

- Various unfinished CG shots of the alternate universe London, full of huge glass and iron buildings in a Christopher Wren template, stunning design. The airship and Magistrate buildings, huge art-deco monolith in the centre of London.

- First scenes with Nicole Kidman as Mrs. Coulter. The producer told us that when they first started talking about a Golden Compass movie (nearly ten years back) she had lunch with Philip Pullman and the first thing they agreed on was casting Kidman as Mrs. Coulter. She is perfect for the role; icy, glamorous, and manipulative. The scene has Lyra at the dinner table; Coulter slinks in behind her, sits down, and charms the pants off her. Well not literally, as that would be wrong.

- Daniel Craig as Lord Asriel. Says Justin Keeling for RT-UK, "I wasn’t 100% sold on Craig as Asriel for much the same reasons as I didn’t fancy him as Bond, but he proved me wrong on that. Still not convinced by his casting, but we’ll see. The beard helps." In this scene Lyra and Asriel are walking in a Jordan college garden and she asks for the first time about Dust. Craig reacts angrily and says her to mind her own affairs.

- An extended scene with Iorek on a loose in a city, running through markets knocking bystanders for six. Lyra is chasing him, along with squad of armed soldiers. Iorek holes up in a small building, which is surrounded by soldiers. They take out their guns and aim, shouting in some unrecognisable language for him to come out. He bursts out of the wall and roars. Lyra runs between the bear and the soldiers guns pleading for them to stop, reasoning with Iorek to come with her instead. A soldier raises his rifle to fire at the bear, but a gun comes into frame pointing at his head, and with it Lee Scoresby. Phenomenal casting, he is perfect. It’s a standoff, and the scene ends. Surprisingly good performance from Lyra here.

- CG effects shot of the camera passing by Lyra, turning a 180 and zooming out to show her on the crow’s nest of a ship heading north. The effects producer says a CG version of her daemon in hawk will be added circling her.

- Amazing shot of a real Lyra riding a CG Iorek the bear through the Arctic wilderness at night. The camera pans around them and the background transforms from starlit darkness into a beautiful full moon. "

:bounce:

Hmmm, I like what I'm reading here. Thanks, timx4.

(I'll try to lower my hostility over this... )

Cool. You have to remember that if RT, the ultimate movie critic site, is drooling over about ten minutes of unfinished footage it can't be all bad.

Knock on wood.

I'll still be griping, no matter what. Even if they got the books word for word. :P That's just how I am. And for many reasons....Although, I somehow didn't mind LOTR...although, pretty actors may have helped. ;) Ha ha ha...:P

*Begins hitting MB with a large stick* OUT! Demons, I cast you OUT! :P

They really need to release a trailer soon.

It's weird, usually I'm supercritical too. Maybe the absolute failure that was the Eragon movie has lowered my standards.

:hammer: :fish: :hammer:
Jesus Christ! That hurts! *stops...laughs at ... implications of that statement considering the whole "overthrowing god" thing...*

;) :P Ha ha ha...*sigh*

Actually, my standards...came about with LOTR. Set my standards with it...and apparently no one is as cool as PJ. Ha ha ha. And about the whole, Eragon thing, when I heard they were making a movie of it...went on a rant....absolutely refused to see it. :P Glad I didn't. I actually had to be literally dragged to see Narnia. Didn't see DaVinci Code....:P And oddly, I had to be dragged to LOTR...buuut....yeah.

If they don't make any changes or whatever...if they screw it up like it sounds like it will be...they'll have to endure my wrath. :vampire:

Mmm...stupid post. :duh:

^ MB, you're so funny.

 GAHHH! *rips a chunk of hair out* If New Line DARE get rid of the whole concept of an evil God... oooh, that'll make me mad. Very mad. So mad that I would go up to them personally and knock the living daylights out of them.

... I need to... kinda... scream.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! *supresses most of screaming so people can actually read this thread :P*

... that's better. :D

Anyway, the descriptions are awesome tim4x! Well, everyone kinda knew that Eragon was going to be a disaster, so hopefully, in the same way, TGC is going to be better.

Ooooh! On it's website, you can try to work the Alethiometer, and it can give away some information about the movie if you learn how to read it... Ohhh, that will take a looong time. Why do I even bother? Well for the rest of you, here's the link:
http://www.goldencompassmovie.com/

EDIT: haha! You don't have to read it, you just have to find the right combination of symbols... *realises that that will take a long time as well* :duh:

:P Ha ha ha!

You know, I was actually seriously considering writing to New Line..."expressing my feelings" and those of many other. Just to let them know that they are complete nincompoops if they don't change their minds. :P
