I'd like to join.
I live in Buckinghamshire.
I have thought of a phrase, but I feel that it's rude, and I can't think of anything else. I'll put * in and someone can deside if it's alright or not... bol**cks - simply because I've heard it in a really posh british accent too many times.

i would say the stiff upper lip does still go to a certain extent though - for example, crying in public isn't really the done thing.
I agree with this, sometimes our comedey seems to be more about making the audience squirm about the situations the characters are in rather than being funny. I'm currently watching the second half or the Vicar of Dibley christmas special and that's exactly how I feel.
Some things however are stupid... I think the Pythons did a lot of that. Take John Cleese's funny walk for example.

OOoo, so do I.
Anyway, the second half of the Vicar of Dibley was hilarious I couldn't stop laughing at the Daleks bobbing about in the background at the wedding..

So let's see...the British is complete dominion over the comedy business and it possess most of the good actors in the world. Plus, lest we forget, the British has awesome authors: Tolkien, Pullman, Rowling, Wells, and Adams. Those five are the ones that I really liked.

^ aah, hence the banner. welcome, btw!
that would be quite an interesting question, actually - who's your favourite british person ever? the official polls tend to come out as either winston churchill or princess diana, but what do you think? we should probably exclude tolkien since it's a bit of a given that we all love him.
i'm rubbish at picking favourites so i'll have to give it a bit more thought and come back to it.

It really depends. If it was actors, I would definitely say Sean Bean. But if we are not talking about actors, then I would say Richard Dawkins or Phillip Pullman. May their ideas never die.

Took a look at it, EBM. Couldn't think of anything good. Anyways, do the lot of you have anything to talk about relating to the UK?
