Ok, this is a really complex idea, but I'll try and explain it.
If anyone has read Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen by Garth Nix, then you'll know what I'm talking about since I'm basing this idea off of those books. Here goes. I'll try and make it breif.

There are two lands separated by a wall. On one side is the country of Ancelstierre, which is like the world we live in. But the other side is called the Old Kingdom, and it is wildy different. The Old Kingdom is magical, and anything made by a machine will fall apart once it enters the Old Kingdom.

There are two types of magic, Free Magic and Charter Magic. The Charter is a bunch of symbols that can be used to do many different things, from controlling the weather to locking a door. But Free Magic is evil and unpredictable, and therefore is used by evil people called necromancers.

They make a living by raising the Dead, which can be as simple as a spirit in a dead body or just the spirit itself. Whatever the case, the Dead crave life :vampire:. The necromancers use seven bells, each with a different power. But there is one person who puts the Dead to rest again, called the Abhorsen. She/he uses the same bells as the necromancers.

Anyway (if you got this far...) the plot would be something like, there is an abundance of Dead and necromancers. I still need to work on the plot and add some more info (what? there's more? say it isn't true!). Just say if it sounds *sort of* like a good idea.

Congrats if you actually read all that.

I read it all, and I think it sounds interesting! I'll see if I can get those books at the library when I go next. I'd probably join!

It sounds interesting, SwedishMoose. I've read another book with a similar joint-world sort of setup, of Earth and another world, where Earth technology that might prove damaging in the other world would be completely destroyed in the transfer.

But it sounds really interesting (depending on how developed the plot is, especially).
