Rachel continued to pull on the metal sheet, but it wasn't opening any farther. She yelled for help again, hoping someone would come.

Mark would have to make a dash for it....but he would have to dart past the alien in order to reach what he thought was the way out of the sewer system.
Counting in his mind silently and breathing hard, he swallowed and then squinted his eyes tightly as he dashed across the hallway that held the alien.

Ariel had gotten fed up and frustrated with Roy's attempted and failed experiments at getting this damned panel open. And so, with one swift blow, gun to the head, he was out and sprawled on the floor. Carelessly, she drug him a slight ways away from the panel... and pulled from her coat pocket a small bottle that she had lifted from the lab, with extraordinary cautions and warning signs pasted all over it.
She inserted it in the small crack that had been pried open of the panel.
She lit a match.
And then, Ariel sprung out of the way, on top of unconscious Roy just as the immense explosion occurred, not only blowing open the panel, but also blowing bits of machinery and mechanicals everywhere. Through the clearing smoke she could see people... and a very destroyed complex system.
The gun was up and in front of her in no time.
